Goal Difference

Thu Apr 04, 2019 12:08 pm

I honestly think we can win every game. With Liverpool & United NOT being impossible, as Wolves kindly showed us against United. And Liverpool feeling the pressure, they're high pressing sure, but they're not Man City. They're attackers are generally players who lose confidence the longer the game goes on without scoring, and other than Big Virge at the back, they've not got unbeatable defenders and midfielders.

OFcourse, the Liverpool & United games would just be bonus points to finish higher in the table, since what I've seen from Cardiff the last 3 games is MORE than capable of beating, and NOT narrowly other teams around us.

If we win the Fulham, Burnley, Palace & Brighton games, and at the very least keep the score down against Liverpool & United, you never know our goal difference might be close to Brighton & Burnley by the time the season ends, as much as that doesn't look possible just yet, bare in mind who Burnley & Brighton still have to face.... they could both EASILY concede 4-5 goals in nearly every game. Let's hope they don't score many.

If we beat Fulham, Brighton, Burnley and Palace I cant see goal difference being an issue as we would have 40 points and Burnley wont get that if we beat them.

We have won just 8 games from 32 played. There is no way we going to win all six of our remaining matches. We are averaging one win every four games, means unless we improve massively we are going to win one or two more this season. Hopefully we can improve our current wins to games ration, but I think you would be able to get almost unbelievable odds on us winning all our remaining games. Not going to happen unfortunately.

Maybe next season we can - in the Championship. ;) I have not given up all hope yet, I have said all season that I thought we could finish in 17th position. I just have a horrible feeling that the Chelsea game was a big nail in our coffin. Can live in hope, and we are still there fighting, going to be a very difficult month for us, and I think we may need another 9 or 10 points to ensure PL football next season. Certainly not impossible even if it's unlikely.

really difficult to guess how many points is needed.
after 16 games 14 points { less than a point a game } meant we had 6 clubs below us...by the half way stage { 19 games and everyone has played each other once } we still only had 15 points and were not in the bottom 3...it all suggested a low tally for survival maybe 33/34 points..not the case now

Steve! Sundays disaster not only means we need about 11 points it also mean the 3 other teams have more leeway and can lose one game more than prior to chelsea game

Thinking exactly the same thing. Have a feeling all the effort the team and the manager have put in this season could be undone because of a couple of terrible decisions in the Chelsea game. I don't really agree that the Zohore block was a red card, but probably will wait a long time before we see such a blatant offside goal allowed again at any level of football. A legitimate penalty turned down as well, just was never going to be our day. No guarantee we would have won, but I am certain we would have got a draw at the very least, and may well have ended up with all three points. Ultimately, those poor decisions made by the officials on Sunday could play a big part in where we play our football next season.

Burnley lose at Bournemouth and to ourselves its then quite possible they don't get another point...

This is the exact scenario I am pinning my hopes on......it's perfectly feasible, even though the odds are against it, I live in hope. :bluebird:

Agree with you both, Burnley have a tough run in and will target these next two games, if they lose them both they are down IMO.

Re: Goal Difference

Not beyond possibility that we end up level on points with someone at the bottom. Unlikely that that the goal difference can swing that much but with the top teams being so good at the moment there could easily be a couple of 6 nil results floating around. So we just keep giving it our best shot and who knows. We keep thinking a win is a must next week but 2 draws at Burnley and Brighton wouldn't be a complete disaster. We need Bournemouth to do us a favour tomorrow.

We have had the odds go against from the beginning,we are still in this, which most pundits (and some fans) didn’t think would be the case, burnley game is huge, but for both teams imho :old: :bluebird:
