MY VIEW/ NEIL ETHERIDGE WAS OUTSTANDNG TONIGHT AND KEPT

Wed Apr 03, 2019 8:32 pm

MY VIEW/OPINION

NEIL ETHERIDGE WAS OUTSTANDNG TONIGHT AND KEPT THE SCORELINE RESPECTABLE AS MAN CITY COULD OF SCORED AT LEAST A DOZEN GOALS.

If Cardiff are relegated can they hold on to Etheridge?

Cardiff's defence also deserves credit for giving everything and throwing their bodies at every Man City attack.

If Cardiff battle like this v Burnley,Brighton and Fulham, we still can stay up :thumbright: :bluebird:

Sounds weird happy with tonights performance :bluebird:

Burnley here we come :thumbright: :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird:

First-half Cardiff should of been 2-nil down with in 5mins, but after Man City had scored the first goal they never went in to 2nd gear and then scored just before half-time.

Second-half Man City upped a gear and could of put at least a dozen goals past Cardiff, but thanks to Neil etheridge Cardiff were able to make the scoreline respectable.

This game was one way traffic, but Cardiff's defence was absolutely outstanding and Neil Etheridge was man of the match for me.

Etheridge is a decent keeper but for every great save he makes there is a poor goal conceded.

His positioning for the first goal was shocking and his distribution crap again

Hardly. I’d say he’s conceded 3 at most this season completely his fault.

Hes been at fault for quite a few. Mostly down to his positioning.

Played well tonight but most of them were pretty comfortable saves in all honesty and you would expect your keeper to save them.

He’s been outstanding for us, it must be said, but he’s certainly creates problems for us at times too, particularly the spell of the season where he seemed to always want to push his saves out into the middle of our 6 yard box, gifting goals/chances to opposition.

His positives far outweigh any negatives in this season, though. He’s kept us in games, at times.

I don’t think it’s all doom and gloom tonight. Yeah we got absolutely dominated but how much is that City team worth?! De Bruyne said he wasn’t going for goal for the 1st goal so that’s a huge slice of luck. Niasse had a decent chance late on. If De Bruyne hadn’t scored and Niasse took his chance who knows. The 2nd half ended 0-0!

I agree but that's why he is only a good keeper not a great one. I cant see many teams trying to pry him away from us. He too inconsistent in his overall game

Try not too praise him too much eh :?: If he conceded a goal for very great save he made,we would have conceded 100 goals by now :? :old: :bluebird:

Why do people bang on about his distribution and Cardiff keepers job under Warnock is to leather it upfield we aren’t Man City we don’t play from the back although at times I wish we varied it his instructions are clear waste some time then hit it long

He’s an outstanding shot stopper up there with some of the best we’ve had here over the years I’ve watched could probably catch a few more crosses but those days are long gone with players standing directly in front of keepers for corners

Can't disagree with the OP and (for me at least) this was a decent result that could help build confidence and reap the rewards in the games to come :thumbright:

Man City are (as I said earlier) a class apart and a 2-0 losss at their place is no disgrace!

Neil Etheridge (first goal apart) was outstanding and we need to put him on a long contract now! :ayatollah:

I thought Etheridge was excellent tonight, and he made a couple of outstanding reaction saves. He is being criticised by some for the first goal, but it was a fluke, as De Bruyne admitted it was meant to be a cross - as a result it made him appear to be out of position. His kicking has improved from last year, and in my opinion he is no worse than Marshall in this part of his game. I hope City can hold on to him. I thought Morrison also had another excellent game , following his Man of the Match display on Sunday.

Can’t blame him for either goal, 1st was an attempted cross and the 2nd took a sly deflection off the faintest of touches to put it just out of his reach helped with the power that was on the ball from Sane

not so clear to some.
but yes it is a tad obvious , for seventy odd games ive not seen one defender rant at him for not rolling it out.. or once seen our back 4 spread for a short kick..

I played in goal for many years glaringly obvious to me his job as to hoof it many times hcould roll and get us going but your watch Morrison and bamba wave their hands to slow it down, 100% a Warnock thing his teams never build from the back it’s always lump forward and in that respect his kicking has improved massively since early last season

1st goal was his fault today 100% keeper should never be beaten at his near post but other than that he’s been excellent this season and we’d have another 30+ minus on our goal difference if someone not as good was between the sticks imo

sorry I do not agree with the 1st goal bit..this myth about shoulder tight to post and should never be beaten at near post is just that a myth. there was no shot there for debruyne, debruyne knew that as did our keeper.it was a fluke, a 1 in a hundred chance that he miss hits a cross and it ends up there.. there were 2 very similar situs in the other game highlights both ended in crosses both keepers came away to a simlar position to our keeper..their job is to try to reduce the main danger which in this case was where the cross was going not the 1 chance in a hundred flukes.

I assure you that your wrong any goalkeeping coach tells you that your first position when any player is at the byelibe or close is your near post, you should never be beaten at your near post not anticipating a miss hit is a poor answer for not being positioned to deal with a miss hit cross, plain and simply he knows he was out of position hence his and Warnocks joke with de bruyne after the match ended ... once I got beat at my near post I didn’t hear the end of it for my entire next 5 years playing

well enough keepers do get beaten there as this cliché is used so often...and no goalkeeper coach will tell you not to play the game infront of you..the main danger there was not debruyne..
and yes it became a joke when Warnock realised there was no fault..

For me last night was a very brave performance, Man City had pure class and we managed to keep the score down to just a 2-0 defeat.

Before last night most fans expected a hammering as clubs like Man City are in another League compared to Cardiff, so today we should think positively as if we continue from last nights performance and the Chelsea game, then Cardiff can beat Burnley,Brighton, Fulham and get at least a draw v Palace to stay up this season :thumbright: :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird:
