Cardiff have been granted an extension to the deadline to respond to FIFA over Nantes' complaint regarding the Premier League club's refusal to pay Emiliano Sala's transfer fee.

Cardiff recently wrote to Nantes proposing a meeting to discuss issues surrounding the Sala tragedy and planned transfer, in line with FIFA's request for the two clubs to come to a resolution directly.

To date, Cardiff have not received a response from Nantes, Nantes say they are now dealing directly with Fifa.

The club have ref
used to pay the £15m transfer fee for the striker who was tragically killed in a plane crash two months ago.

Nantes complained to FIFA - with Cardiff having until April 3 to respond, but that deadline has been extended.

Cardiff will argue that Sala's contract had been rejected by the Premier League and was therefore 'null and void'. He had been unable to sign a revised deal before his death on January 21. Cardiff will also claim that further contract clauses - proposed by Nantes - had not been met.

Nantes say they are fully compliant with FIFA rules and point to the fact that FIFA registered the International Transfer Certificate on January 21st at 5.30pm.

I'm not reading too much into this other than FIFA granting the extension to allow the two clubs to come to some agreement without the need for a decision or arbitration from them

Nantes complained to the world governing body after not receiving the first £5m installment of the Sala fee, which was due on February 20.

Nantes' lawyers wrote to Cardiff on February 5 asking for the first of three annual payments to be paid within 10 working days. That was extended until February 20 but, with no money received, Nantes took the matter to FIFA.

Cardiff say they are withholding any payments at the moment until they receive full disclosure on the facts surrounding Sala's eligibility to have played for them and further details of the plane crash.

This was just on radio wales , only caught the last bit of it - it seems fifa have said they hope the 2 clubs can sort it out between themselves and then they mentioned an offer by Cardiff in terms of compensation / olive branch etc.

How much that would be - I guess would be undisclosed. Sala was valued at 1 million about 18 months ago. In the mean time Im sure there will be counter claims against the other parties in this apparently illegal flight.

No way will Cardiff offer compensation, that would be admitting liability!!!

Olive branch, to an owner demanding payments even before a body had been recovered? No from me., Sorry.

I read somewhere that Sala wanted all his signing on fee upfront which is against Premier League rules and it has to be spread over the contract. The club then had to have talks with Sala which they were unable to do obviously. It said if Sala had refused then he wouldn't have signed for Cardiff.

Am I missing something here ? If that date is correct and the transfer certificate was registered on 29th January the crash was on 21st January in which case he was not our player ?

Surely that is an error or this case is pretty clear cut.

They've made a mistake, Nantes already announced weeks ago they have registered on Monday 21st January 5;30pm and its been put out here on many times.

If it was the 29th January, then 100% Sala would not of been a City player on the night he died.

Its been put out on numerous occasions

Nantes say they are fully compliant with FIFA rules and point to the fact that FIFA registered the International Transfer Certificate on January 21, 2019 at 5.30pm.

A Cardiff spokesperson said: "The club is aware of FIFA's request for a response by April 3 and is processing that accordingly. We have no further comment at this stage."

New twist in Cardiff City Emiliano Sala dispute as Bluebirds request meeting with Nantes and Fifa extend deadline

By Katie Sands

Media Wales

Wednesday 3rd April 2019

Cardiff City have requested a truce with Nantes as the Emiliano Sala transfer fee dispute wrangles on.

Cardiff had been due to present their case to FIFA by the end of play today (Wednesday) after the French club took the issue to the world governing body, but Cardiff have now been granted more time to do so.

FIFA has permitted the club a 10-day extension, with the deadline falling on Saturday, April 13, so effectively the new deadline would be two days later on Monday, April 15.

The wrangle centres around whether Sala was a Cardiff or Nantes player at the time of the plane tragedy on January 21.

The Bluebirds are withholding payment on the £15million transfer fee, while the French club are demanding the money and have asked FIFA to intervene.

Cardiff have now written to the French side requesting a direct meeting over the dispute regarding the fee, but their calls for a truce have so far gone unanswered.

The extension allows Nantes more time to decide whether to respond to the request to open up direct communication, but no response from the French club had been received by the end of play on Tuesday.
