No Warnock sanction for staring down officials

Warnock, Liverpool worried?

NEIL WARNOCK:

Cardiff “just have to get on with it” after Chelsea heartbreak.

“You realise not many more things could go against us, apart from an earthquake or something.”

Warnock will stick to first team to face Manchester City after Under-23 jokes.

More criticism for the FA’s head of referees Mike Riley, with Warnock describing him as “almost like a robot”.

NEIL WARNOCK:

"All the Chelsea players came up to me after the game - in particular David Luiz, who said: ‘How did he not see that?’

I said ‘David, don’t start!’"

Pride?

NEIL WARNOCK:

“I’m quite proud of Cardiff since I’ve been here. The fans have been superb - and only the brave go to the Etihad on Wednesday night.”

NEIL WARNOCK:

Seven cup finals?

“I think we’ve got Manchester City and then six winnable games. Let’s not use my comments as a defeatist attitude. I don’t want to go there and shut the shop up. Let’s go and have a go, I wanted to do that against Chelsea - although it turned out sour. That was another kick in the teeth and psychologically you’ve got to be strong to overcome that. I won’t know until I look at the faces on Wednesday night whether people aren’t up for it. Three or four players had knocks on Sunday, but they all want to play. One lad who I thought would definitely be out wants to do a bit of training and travel with us. It’s important we give a good account of ourselves.”

NEIL WARNOCK:

Staring at refs?

“If you watch me at the end of the game, Harry Arter and Bruno are around the referees. I dragged them away from the referee and then as usual I wanted to clap the round and the refs didn’t seem to want to move. I can’t imagine why they would even think about a charge.”

Warnock on the refereeing decisions

“You just have to get on with it and get onto the next one. You realise not many more things could go against us, apart from an earthquake or something. It was only a game of football, I’m sure a lot of the country would be happy, especially the teams around us. It shows how fine a balance football is. The sooner VAR comes in the better. “

On his wife's comments

“I’ll fine my wife a week’s wages. I don’t regret saying it, it’s my wife she says what she wants. I can’t condone that and that’s why I took action against her. I’m sure lots of Cardiff fans felt the same.”

Staring at refs?

NEIL WARNOCK:

On Jamie Carragher and VR

“It’s amazing what you can do. But there has to be someone taking a corner kick, so there has to be better coaches to avoid that. What could Eddie Smart have done better in that situation? Did he see the two guys offside or was he concerned about the ball going in or out? Surely they should get coaching to see what their priority is. Hopefully they will have learned from it. He shouldn’t be blocked at that level, he should know better. It was a very critical situation and the losers from that are Cardiff City.”

NEIL WARNOCK:

Motivating the players after it

“Well we go to Manchester City so first of all, I’ve told them there’s no excuses to missing out on this game. They’ve all got to turn up. We’ve got to do our best in the game. I doubt any of our squad could get in either two of their first teams. They’ve taken the Premier League to another level. And you’re not only putting your wits against the very best - possibly in Europe - but it’s the highest odds in a game this season. 40/1 in a two horse race! The bookies say they’ve never seen betting like it.

“We’ve got a genuine team, it was never a game where our expectations were. But the Chelsea game wasn’t one where anyone gave us much of a chance. The problem now is we worked on playing them offside from corner kicks for three weeks, which worked a treat on Sunday but cost us the game.”

On Klopp being unhappy if Under-23s play

NEIL WARNOCK:

“It’s interesting that we could decide the Premier League. I wonder what the reaction would be if that decision happens to Liverpool or Man City on the last day of the season. Jurgen has done a fantastic job getting to where they are. Pep is another level, I admire what they’re doing for English football.

“I think the top four have moved up a step and the top two have gone up even further. Everything has got to fit into place. Every one of your players have got to play above themselves, all their players have to play below themselves. And you’ve got to be so careful when their quick lads are running into the penalty box.”

Mental strength?

“When you look at Huddersfield who have gone and Fulham aren’t far away. You’d expect us to be in that category. And we haven’t gained many points from decisions, we’ve been on the receiving end of some bad decisions on top of what happened at the club (Sala situation), so I can’t fault the lads’ mentality and mental strength.”

Getting back on the horse

NEIL WARNOCK:

“When you look at postponements, we didn’t want to have this next week when we’ve got Burnley. And we always knew Brighton would be midweek. After Sunday it’s better to get back on the pitch and have a blow-out.”

Has Sarri spoken to you after the game?

NEIL WARNOCK:

“Foreign managers don’t tend to do that, but Zola spoke to me after the game and all the Chelsea players came up to me after the game - in particular David Luiz ‘how did he not see that?’ and I said ‘David, don’t start!’ I suppose when you’ve won a game and got out of prison like that, it’s easy.”

Chris Sutton saying Welsh clubs shouldn’t be in the Premier League?

NEIL WARNOCK:

“He probably needs a few more hits on his social thing. We’ve already answered Chris Sutton this year. The best thing from our point of view is not to give him any ammunition. The more ammunition the more they seem to thrive on that. I’m just glad we got to 11 points.

“Certain people probably want to ban the Welsh rugby team, especially after they’ve won the Championship!”

FA?

NEIL WARNOCK:

“I’d imagine they’d ask me for my observations because so many people in the media have had their say. Mike Riley and myself aren’t close on the Christmas card list. People like Graham Poll, Clattenburg are absolutely spot on and I think it’s criminal that they’re not involved. Mark Halsey, he knew how to handle players and he could give major advice to some of these referees.

“I always thought Mike Riley was a manufactured referee, almost like a robot. I feel these people struggle to understand the game. The common sense thing is not allowed nowadays, but the best refs use it - someone like Michael Oliver who knows the rules but understands the game. Referees should be looking at Michael Oliver, he doesn’t do everything by the book. The ex-referees could give the education and knowledge and I think we’ve gone backwards a bit.”

VAR?

NEIL WARNOCK:

“I didn’t think it should come in for certain FA Cup ties, a certain level they could all have been done. The Swansea game where they’ve got the facilities and they get knocked out of the FA Cup due to not having VAR was scandalous. The Swansea lads that day had their best game of the season, like ours was on Sunday, so they felt let down.”

Tough slog?

NEIL WARNOCK:

“It’s been my hardest season, my 40th year in management. I can’t remember ever having the situations I’ve been in this year. But when I look at the team and how proud I am coming through, people don’t understand. I woke up at 3.30 after the game thinking of Eddie Smart. And when I retire and I’m fishing I’ll be thinking of Eddie Smart. The way I am, Mr Marmite, you can’t beat them all. At least over my career I’ve had an opinion and kept journalists in good print. I’m quite proud of my career and that’s why in the last seven games I’m going to do the best I can.”

No Warnock sanction for staring down officials

It was revealed last night that the Football Association will not impose any sanction on Neil Warnock for ‘staring down’ referee Craig Pawson and his assistants after Cardiff’s 2-1 defeat to Chelsea on Sunday.

Warnock said he didn’t want to shout at the officials and risk an FA fine - which he joked he’d need to match by paying the same amount to his wife Sharon - and therefore just stood stock still in the centre circle and shook his head.

The Cardiff boss could, however, be charged over his post-match comments about the officials, claiming in an interview that the Premier League had “probably the worst officials at the minute”, ranting at refs’ boss Mike Riley, plus other comments that you can read here.

That first Chelsea goal from Cesar Azpilicueta plus two big penalty shouts for Sean Morrison were the main reasons for Warnock’s wrath.

Ex referee assesses decisions from Cardiff v Chelsea

Former referee Dermot Gallagher has gone through the controversial decisions in Cardiff City’s loss to Chelsea

Speaking to Sky Sports , Gallagher agreed with the rest of the world that Cesar Azpilicueta’s goal was offside and that VAR would have put that one right.

He also felt that Sean Morrison deserved to win at least one of his two penalty claims - but argued that referee Craig Pawson was right not to send off Antonio Rudiger for the challenge on Kenneth Zohore when he only had goalkeeper Kepa to beat.

Warnock don't risk any of the players with knocks, rest as many as you can we have important games coming up, you are a top Manager use your head and don't take unnecessary risks !!!

Some good interesting points there although I'm a tad worried by the ' tough slog ' paragraph as I read it as it's his last season.
