Some perspective for those saying we're doomed

Sat Mar 30, 2019 5:07 pm

Yes, the burnley result is bad. But in my opinion that was the only bad result today.

Southampton beating Brighton is HUGE for us, that means Brighton are only 5 points infront of us, and have you seen their fixtures?

Chelsea v Brighton
Brighton v Bournemouth
Brighton v Cardiff
Wolves v Brighton
Tottenham v Brighton
Brighton v Newcastle
Arsenal v Brighton
Brighton v Man City

They MIGHT beat Newcastle. But other than that, they only have us.

Yes, suprise victories against bigger sides can happen but why should I include that when everyone disregards us doing it. We're as capable of getting points from sides much bigger than us as anyone else, we just haven't yet that's all.

As for Burnley, they are in a similar situation to Brighton. Same points, 5 points ahead of Cardiff but here's their fixtures

Bournemouth v Burnley
Burnley v Cardiff
Chelsea v Burnley
Burnley v Man City
Everton v Burnley
Burnley v Arsenal

As far as I'm concerned Southampton haven't been in this relegation battle for a while, they have way too many winnable games.

In my opinion I wouldn't be suprised in the slightest if Burnley & Brighton don't pick up another single point...Provided we beat them both ofcourse.

It's not doom and gloom at all. The only result today that went against us today was Burnleys. How come before today alot of people thought we'd finish above Brighton, yet, when Brighton lose and Burnley win today we're suddenly finishing below Brighton? It doesn't make sense. Believe you plebs :laughing6: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

We certainly have more chance of finishing above Brighton now they've lost to Southampton than if they'd won.

Everybody is writing off our next two games and understandably so.
I also don't see Brighton or Burnley getting many more points but they both will target games against us as a safety net.
It doesn't look great on paper but when has paper ever won a football match.

I agree - let's keep positive. Why shouldn't Burnley beat Wolves at home? Afterall we did.

Wouldn't write off chelsea game point is at least possible ! Man c even a miracle won't help us? :laughing6: us and Burnley and any other team playing top 6 team have little chance of getting a win even a draw is improbable if look at bottom 6 record against top 6.

Wolves and Brighton both had one eye on the FA cup semi finals .thats why my bet today was a Southampton /burney £10 double.

We've got more chance of Brexit happening than City staying up! We are not quite good enough and never have been with the level of investment made. However, I am very proud of the team this year and the way they have battled. I will cheer them all the way to the finish and accept relegation with a smile on my face.

Today was probably Burnley best chance to get a win other than the 6 pointer against us. They have tough fixtures coming up. I don't think much has changed and I think 9 points would be enough maybe less if one of those is against Burnley.

Beat Fulham,Palace and one win out of Brighton and Burnley will be enough.
37 points.

What's investment got to do with it? Fulham spent 100m+ and they are down ! We didn't even play and we are down according to you and others? Not over until fat lady sings and at moment she's just exercising her tonsils. :laughing6:

As fortunate as Burnely have been of late, beating spurs, own goals, winning games without any shots on target, I can’t see them getting anymore points, so we know exactly what we have to do, aswell as beating them at turf moor.

The difference between us and teams around us (and the reason we’re 11 points ahead of Fulham and not too far off others while we’ve got games in hand) is the work rate of the squad. Can’t fault them. I’ve watched Fulham this season closely and have enjoyed watching them lose but what I’m thankful for is not having a player like Tom Cairney in the squad. He captained them yesterday and - ok he played Man City - but he’s such an awful player. People say that players like Grealish don’t deserve to be in the Prem but last year they were saying that’s Cairney does but what a flop he’s been. Whatever happens with us today or Wednesday or for the rest of the season, I’m pleased with how hard the squad has worked especially after everything that’s happened throughout the year. If we go down we’ll go down fighting :bluescarf:

And might I add, I believe that the work rate that we have can very well allow us to prevail over the likes of Brighton or Burnley :bluebird:

I may well be wrong (I often am) but I've a sneaky feeling in my gut we might pull off a shock win today.
