NEIL WARNOCK UNHAPPY WITH ICELAND MANAGER OVER GUNNAR INJURY

Fri Mar 29, 2019 11:39 am

Iceland’s national team manager can expect a frosty reception from Neil Warnock over their “selfish” decision to play Aron Gunnarsson in both of their matches during the international break.

"Originally I was told they weren't going to play Aron on the plastic pitch for the first game [against Andorra]; he played for over an hour," said Warnock.

"And then he plays against France for 93 minutes. I can't understand that at all really.

"I know it's a new manager (Erik Hamren took charge after last year's World Cup), you want to do well, but when you're 3-0 down with 80 minutes gone, surely you can substitute a player.

"I bent over backwards for Iceland last season to allow him to go to the World Cup, gave him a new contract, and he had three months this season where he was out. We had to build him back up.

"I was disappointed with the Iceland manager. I'll be speaking to him later today (Friday) as well."

Warnock added: "I think that was pure selfishness and am so disappointed in Iceland for doing that."

Luke....

I understand Gunnar was very sore in his legs after the two games for Iceland and he has been receiving physiotherapy to get him ready

The feeling is currently that he should play at least some part in the game :ayatollah:

Good news :occasion5:

Although I'm not his biggest fan I think we are limited in his position and miss him when he doesn't play. :bluescarf:

We need all hands on deck and all options available, as the season draws to a close...but I am of the mind that injury problems always seem worse at your own club rather than others :thumbright:

New Iceland manager wouldnt care less about upsetting NW. If Gurnars departure hadn't been agreed and announced Iceland manager may have thought he should stay on his clubs good side but no point now.

Our record with and without Gunnar in the side speaks for itself so let's hope physios work their magic.

Agreed, for some reason we gave never invested in a similar player. Grujic the only one on loan who had a decent results per game.
