Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan has congratulated Ole Gunnar Solskjaer following his appointment as Manchester United’s permanent manager.

Solskjaer, who represented the Red Devils as a player between 1996-2007, was made interim manager after Jose Mourinho’s sacking in December.

However, the Norwegian has done better than many expected, breathing new life into United’s top four hopes and reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League in sensational style.

It’s a far cry from the days when Solskjaer was appointed Cardiff boss in January 2014 and was unable to prevent the Bluebirds from avoiding relegation from the Premier League in the 2013/14 season.

He was then relieved of his duties in September 2014 – less than nine months after getting the job.

As Solskjaer was sacked with Tan as Cardiff City owner, there could be bad blood between the two.

But Tan sent to a text to talkSPORT’s Jim White on Thursday saying he was ‘delighted’ for his old employee.

Tan’s text read:

Jim,

I want it known I’m very pleased to congratulate Ole for his much-deserved confirmation as manager of Manchester United, a job coveted by many.

Ole has brought success and stability to the United team in his short stint.

I wish Ole great success, I’m delighted for him.

Warmest regards,

Vincent
