Will loss at home to Burnley come back to bite us?

Thu Mar 28, 2019 12:15 pm

Had we defeated a very bad Burnley side at home earlier this season, we would have denied them 3 points, given us 3 points extra, and we would now sit 4 points above them with a game in hand. Will this game be the pivotal game this season? :bluebird:

No as we've played 30 games this season so far and losing 3 points to a team doesnt define season unless game is at end season :old:

You can look back over many games and question what we should or could have done. That was a frustrating game though.

Effectively 6points as they were poor and a typical smash and grab, the only way it will balance out is if we do the same to them which I think we will

I said at the time it could come back to haunt us. I even predicted before the game it would be an annoyingly frustrating game with Vokes scoring the winner and we would all be wondering how we lost! It was my most frustrating game of the season by a mile, 19 goal attempts to 3! Unfortunately, I can see Burnley regrouping again over the international break and going “back to basics” to grind out a 1-0 win against us and again, we will be travelling home frustrated wondering how they “did a job on us”. Hopefully, I will be wrong this time around. Teams like Burnley and Brighton pick up their wins at home when they score the first goal and have the lead to defend. We need to score first in both games to have any chance of beating them in my opinion, but we can do it!

Simply because it is defined on whole season not just one game.! What about all other games we've lost? Every game is important

But everyone else is not fighting for the last relegation spot, losing to other teams is less important unless we redress the balance at their place and i hope we rob them like they robbed us,therefore it may come back to haunt us

Regardless of us losing to them at home it goes without saying we need to avoid defeat against them preferable a win just because we are 2 points below them no other reason! Dont get the fascination with us losing to them at home what about the other games we lost but should won? Or games we won but should have lost? Don't they count points wise?

I think it might, but for me the biggest disappointment was Huddersfield home. Crap performance against a crap side who absolutely dominated us. Massive 2 points lost.

Come on did we deserve to beat Burnley? NO And did we deserve to lose all points we have or win the points we did? Take wolves away didn't deserve to lose we could been 2 goals up plus their player should been sent off before they scored.. Newcastle WE should lost they missed pen last kick! Sure if looked minutely at other games can make case for winning and losing points? But of course only opinion but everyone knows season is not based on one game but every game. :old:

Undeniably yes. You can point to all the other games we’ve played this season but only one of those was a ‘six pointer’ against what looks like our biggest rival for 17th place.

Frustratingly we battered them too.

Explain how the 8th game of the season was a six pointer when last season Burnley was high enough to qualify for Europe! Huddersfield was more six pointer than Burnley as everyone new they were relegation candidates. :old:

Don't understand where this 6 pointer or losing to them bites us after 8 games comes from? Last season they were high enough to qualify for Europe and certainly not relegation rivals when we played them Only Huddersfield was! When we play them it will be massive game certainly a must no :sleepy2: t lose game but even then wont define the season if lose.....

Thread is saying by losing to them we've let them get 3 points because of it? But as I've just said Burnley was not a relegation candidate especially as they finished high enough to qualify for Europe last season and certainly not relegation rivals after just 8 game's ! Now is totally different scenario

Re: Will loss at home to Burnley come back to bite us?

The answer to OP is obviously yes.

Regardless of when the game was played that game was one of a series when it was vital to take 3 points, or at worst not lose.

Burnley were woeful but so were City in the two important areas on the pitch. Hart kept them in it. Etheridge was for once at fault.

The only way it can be rectified is to go and win up there but our record is poor up there, and Burnley will be battling like never before and have the type of players who may well out do ours. Plus they have goal scorers whereas we do not.

City need also to do what Burnley and Southampton have done, and take points off the top 6 clubs.
