Nathan Blake Says Cardiff C will have to wait to the final

Cardiff City's final eight results predicted and the points total they must hope is enough to survive

Will it go down to the final game of the season against Manchester United?

Nathan Blake predicts...

I can see it going down to the final game of the season at Old Trafford for Cardiff.

I can't see anything other than a defeat at Old Trafford, but let's hope the Bluebirds will be safe anyway.

Cardiff City have eight games left to determine their fate.

It's going to be a huge effort for Neil Warnock and the players, but they've put themselves in a great position and it can certainly be done.

Burnley are the team who will believe they can push Cardiff down and build a gap, but by the same token the Bluebirds will rightly believe they can reel the Clarets in.

I can see it going all the way to the final game, one way or another.

Cardiff are currently on 28 points, so I thought I'd break it down game-by-game to see how many they'll finish on.

So as much as predictions are so so difficult, here's how I can see Cardiff's final eight games panning out...

Cardiff City's run-in

March 31: Chelsea (H)

April 3: Man City (A)

April 13: Burnley (A)

April 16: Brighton (A)

April 21: Liverpool (H)

April 27: Fulham (A)

May 4: Crystal Palace (H)

May 12: Man Utd (A)

Chelsea (H)

A defeat for me, but a narrow one. Chelsea have some truly world class players, but they can be inconsistent.

It remains to be seen how the break will affect both teams — and I think the home crowd will have an impact — but the Blues can blow you away on their day. That man Eden Hazard can tear you apart even when he's having an average game.

Cardiff will give a good account of themselves but lose, maybe 2-1.

Man City (A)

My fear with this game is Raheem Sterling, for me the best player in the country right now. Arguably in Europe. He's a shoo-in for the player of the year awards and at the forefront for Pep Guardiaola's team right now — who I think will be on it every game from now until the end of the season.

Can they be stopped? Probably not.

You'd hope Cardiff can keep the score down, but I can't see the Bluebirds getting away from there conceding less than five goals. Anything less than that would be ideal, although nothing is beyond the realms of possibilities. Even if it is a drubbing, I think the players will shrug it off and go again, they won't feel soul destroyed.

I would say a 5-0 Man City win, but football throws up surprises and I hope to be surprised.

Burnley (A)

A ding-dong battle this one, probably the biggest game of Cardiff's calendar year by the sheer fact that the clubs are currently separated by just two points.

I just hope the Clarets don't get further than three points ahead by the time this game rolls around. You want them within your sights.

It'll be a match where both teams go all out, a high energy, highly competitive affair with nothing to choose between them.

I'm predicting a 1-1 draw.

Brighton (A)

This is the kind of fixture Cardiff can win — and will have to if they're to reel in Burnley.

I see Brighton as a Leicester-type game: a good team with a very good manager, but an atmosphere in which Cardiff will thrive. They'll take a few fans down to the south coast and slug out a 1-0 victory.

Liverpool (H)

Liverpool will be going to win every game, in the same vein as Man City, and I can't see them slipping up in Cardiff. It's not as though Jurgen Klopp will rest players and go easy — all the big guns will be starting to keep their Premier League title hunt on the march.

It's hard to say an exact score, but a Liverpool win by two or three goals for me.

Fulham (A)

This has the potential to be a banana skin, but you have to think Cardiff can win it in the circumstances.

Some Bluebirds fans may be fearing a slip-up at Craven Cottage, but Cardiff tend to do well there and I hope they travel there believing they're better than Fulham, believing they will win the game.

Overpower them, run them into the ground, show Fulham you want it more than them.

I think they'll win too, although it'll be tight, maybe a 2-1.

Crystal Palace (H)

Joining up the dots, if Cardiff go and beat Fulham they could take some serious momentum into this home game, which could be pivotal.

Palace are a temperamental team, Wilfried Zaha and Andros Townsend are talented boys but they're not consistent enough for me, while good enough to get safe by this point.

It's another where Cardiff might just have the advantage — if they stop Zaha and if the crowd make a huge noise, which I'm sure they will. A 2-0 win for me.

Manchester United (A)

With other results, who knows what Cardiff might have to achieve on the final day of the season. I just hope they're still in the mix by then.

I can't see anything other than a defeat at Old Trafford, but let's hope the Bluebirds will be safe anyway.

We need to get some points from the bigger games, Chelsea home we need to get a point atleast. It’s going to be tight Burnley is obviously a massive game whoever wins that will be in a good position and hopefully Burnley just capitulate.
