Man Utd to play AC Milan in Cardiff!

Wed Mar 27, 2019 11:25 am

Man Utd to play AC Milan at Principality Stadium on August 3rd in the “International Cup”

Dreadful news. They wouldn’t go to Wembley to play. Why not go to Glasgow instead? Or Timbuktu for that matter

Its good for local businesses, think of all those armchair supporters who will now know where Wales is

I don't have an issue with it, but as it must have been done with the permission of the FAW, I hope they had the decency to consult with clubs in the immediate area. For example it will now effect any friendly we might want to arrange for around that day.

I'd like to think consent from FAW and CCFC would have been necessary. Money spinner for WRU too. Can't see much good in it myself.

I wouldn't go myself but don't see why people would care, no different to a sell out concert.

If it's reasonably priced I'd probably go along. Nice day out before another stressful season begins :ayatollah:

Cheapest adult tickets start at about £30, with most expensive being around £60 (incl. booking fees etc) whilst U16s range from £11-£25 and Over 65s are between £16-£50. Quite a rip off considering its only a friendly and you’re unlikely to see full strength sides a week before the Premier League season. Also, it takes place on Saturday the 3rd of August, same day as the Championship season starts. So in the unlikely event that City go down it could clash with our first game.

Couldn’t pay me to go and watch this, bad enough sitting next to fake Man Utd fans in local pubs when they are on.

It will sell out tho.

Just one question.......

Why?

There are many territories around the world that Man U can plunder for more fans so why Cardiff and why the UK.

Great event. I'd pay to watch it just like I did with the Super Cup a few years back.

It's good for the City and local businesses I suppose, from a Football perspectives I think it would be a damp squib these pre season friendlies usually are.

I'd be shocked if they sold 70,000 tickets for it.

Its part of a recognised taunament so expect decent sides to be put out! But question is why in cardiff is old Trafford in use ?

Lancashire are playing at the Cricket Ground which is only half a mile away from the Football Ground, no idea what sort of crowds they pull but I'm guessing it's that maybe.

Don’t see people’s problem with it.

I just have a (probably) irrational dislike of Man Utd. I used to cheer them on twice every season when they played the Jacks but I don’t even get that at the moment!

To me it doesn’t feel right to set up a home game, albeit a meaningless pre season game, in the same town as another Premier/Football League team, although I realise that there are large numbers of genuine Man Utd supporters in South Wales (ie people exiled from Manchester).

I’ll give it a miss.

Nah can tailor footy game to start after cricket! Be cynical and say its a marketing ploy?

its great financially for the City of Cardiff.
don't see how it can be anything but bad for our club though.

Paul, this is yet another coup for the Welsh capital and people should embrace it! :thumbright:

Like you, I paid to watch the Super Cup and also the Ladies Champions League Final (a surprisingly good game) at the CCS

I was also lucky enough to be at the Champions League Final between Juventus and Real Madrid

Why anyone wouldn't want the biggest events in our wonderful city baffles me...and I don't just mean football either

We've had football, inc. several FA Cup, League Cup and Play-off Finals (one of which involved our beloved team), rugby, boxing, cricket, concerts and so much more

I'm sure the Ac Milan v Man Utd game will be a televised sell out and that will bring nothing but positives for the city of Cardiff and Wales as a whole

It’s to cement their support in a traditionally strong area that has dwindled in recent years. They will hope Cardiff are back in the championship so they can court more floating support from South Wales next season. Liverpool has eaten into their core support in South Wales over the past few decades :bluebird:

People spending money in the city is a big boost to local economy and benefits all of us . Couldnt care less who played in the egg stadium as long as it wasnt our 6 fingered caravan dwelling friends from down the M4 .

:notworthy:  Well said Sven . I work for a company who supports local bars and restaurant businesses in Cardiff , nothing better than watching a business you have helped go from strength to strength . Money in peoples pockets with these events has only improved the economy more
