Cardiff City legend Danny Gabbidon delivers brutal but candid verdict on Bluebirds' team spirit
By Paul Abbandonato

Bluebirds fans' favourite Gabbidon questions Cardiff body language

Cardiff City fans' favourite Danny Gabbidon has outlined concerns over the Bluebirds' team spirit as they fight relegation from the Premier League.

Neil Warnock's side crashed to their third defeat on the trot as they fell 2-0 at Wolves, two sloppy early goals costing Cardiff as fans begin questioning some of the manager's decisions.

Warnock's call to bring skipper Sean Morrison straight back into the team has coincided with three straight losses, 10 goals conceded and the feelgood factor built from wins over Bournemouth and Southampton evaporate.

Many supporters are baffled by the Morrison decision and in particular Warnock dropping Bruno Manga, Cardiff's best defender this season, for the game at Molineux.

Others query the decision to choose Joe Ralls ahead of Harry Arter, who again has been one of the Bluebirds' more impressive performers this campaign and who has much-needed Premier League experience.

The slipshod nature of the goals conceded at Wolves, which follow similar mistakes made versus Watford and Everton, have simply reinforced the belief from many fans about why there was any need to change a defence that had played so well in the wins over Bournemouth and Southampton.

But Gabbidon, who became a huge hit with Cardiff supporters when making almost 200 appearances for the club at the start of the millennium, feels the problems are more deep-lying and go right into the dressing room.

The respected TV pundit tweeted his worries for his beloved Bluebirds after the Molineux loss, saying Wolves, Everton and Watford had "done diddly squat to get their goals!"

He went on: "Something isn’t right. We can talk systems, personnel etc etc but I’m not buying that. I’m looking at the body language, the team spirit. Looks all wrong to me."

Gabbidon completed the tweet with an emoji of an unamused face and went on to question Cardiff's defending in further social media posts.

Cardiff's team spirit has become famous under Warnock and seen as one of the principle reasons for last season's promotion success and the battle to stay out of the bottom three this time around.

But Gabbidon is not the type of individual to court controversy, so his fears over body language will come as a concern to fans.

He had earlier tweeted during the match that Wolves had gone 2-0 up "without even trying."

Warnock desperately needs to right the wrongs in time for Cardiff's must-win home clash with West Ham in the Welsh capital on Saturday.

Although Southampton's defeat at Manchester United means the gap between them and the Bluebirds remains only at two points, Brighton's home win over Huddersfield puts them five clear of Cardiff.

It is looking increasingly likely to be a straight fight between Cardiff and Southampton to join doomed duo Huddersfield and Fulham in the Championship next season.

Worryingly for the Bluebirds, their south-coast based rivals appear to have the easier run-in.

Cardiff's remaining nine games sees them face West Ham, Chelsea, Liverpool and Crystal Palace at home, while they have five away trips to Brighton, Manchester City, Burnley, Fulham and an Old Trafford finale at Manchester United.

Southampton meet Tottenham, Liverpool, Wolves, Bournemouth and Huddersfield at home. They have four remaining away matches, at Watford, Brighton, Newcastle and West Ham.

Cardiff won't want to be trailing on the last day on May 12 when they have to meet Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's revived Man Utd away, while Southampton host Huddersfield down on the south coast.

I think he's spot on, & what exactly happened during the two week break after the Southampton away game?

Lethargic, tired, apathetic, these are Not the traits of a Neil Warnock team???

They took the foot off the gas mentally and physically.
I wonder if they should have completed the warm weather training as planned instead of the breaks they took on holidays.

Indeed. Family time is one thing, especially under such tragic set of circumstances,,, but I cant help feeling that theres a lot more to things than that? I hope that recent off field events have not debased our club.

Warnock talked about having a type of people in the trenches with him....

Back in the day when he played for us I used to work in TGI Friday's and Danny would come in with his misses quite regularly. I served him loads of times and he was always a genuinely decent guy, really polite and respectful and no airs and graces at all - top, top man. Always been one of my City favourites for what he did on the pitch, but love it when your heroes are good people in real life as well!
