NEIL WARNOCK: SAYS “ SAME OLD STORY “

Sat Mar 02, 2019 7:29 pm

Here's what a despondent Neil Warnock said about the defeat , Sol Bamba's awful injury and how to arrest his team's recent slump:

Saturday 2nd March 2019

NEIL WARNOCK:

Did the two early goals killed the game off?

"I was stood there 15 minutes gone thinking I've never been as comfortable at Wolves. I thought the crowd were restless but then within two minutes we're 2-0 down.

"Same old story really - you can't keep going on saying that.

"They say their first was a great goal but from our point of view, three lads at least could have done better. The second goal Sol knows you can't do things like that at this level.

"We shot ourselves in the foot. Never really gave ourselves a chance. I did think if we could get the next goal, it'd be interesting.

"We had to open up a little bit and consequently we're going to get caught on the break.

"How (Ryan) Bennett didn't get sent off, I'll never know. Second bookable offence, he looked straight at the referee, he knew he's committed a second booking. We don't seem to be getting those decisions at the minute.

"We can go back to the penalty against Watford. But I think we've got to make our own luck, we've got to stop feeling sorry for ourselves.

"But that was a crucial decision today, I was disappointed because Andre (Marriner) is a good referee, but he'll be disappointed when he sees it again."

Have you spoken to the referee?

"Yeah, yeah. He said he'll have a look.

"But I spoke to Simon Hooper (after Watford) and he said 'yes, definite penalty, I'm ever so sorry' - that really helped me after losing 5-1!"

How would the red have changed the game?

"I think with 10 men the game is a different game with 45 minutes to go. Whereas we had to try and get that next goal.

"I thought Gunnars could have had a couple if he'd had his shooting boots on today. The last minute before the first half whistle and he was unlucky in the first minute, Ruddy fumbled it with nobody to tap it in.

"We don't give ourselves a chance. We've got to go a goal in front for a change rather than committing suicide like that and giving two goals away. For me they were stupid goals."

What was the thinking behind the attacking lineup?

"Because of you guys, you want them all! You pick the team...

"I just felt the way Wolves play we could catch them in certain areas - and I still do. Unfortunately we can't if we throw goals away like that. It doesn't matter who we're playing, we won't win any games if we concede goals like that.

"But I thought the attitude was alright. I thought the two full-backs were excellent, Bennett and Pelts. I thought Joe Ralls was super. Victor was tired but he came through alright. There were a few plusses for us but we killed ourselves with the goals."

How's Sol Bamba?

"Not very good, we honestly don't know the full extent but I would imagine the way things are going, it would be season-defining.

"You can't tell with things like that until they've settled down with swelling.

"The worse scenario is if it's a bad one, I can't see him playing again this season.

"But that's imaging it's the worse scenario.

"He's had a rip on his thigh which should had kept him out for six weeks, so you never know with Sol - he might be alright for next weekend."

A tough ask to stay up now?

"We're not scoring goals and we're conceding silly goals. It's a bad recipe.

"It looks gloomy at the minute, but we've had a number of situations while I've been here in the last two and a half years where we've been in a similar situation.

"There's the doom merchants and the glass is half empty at the minute.

"But we've got to show some courage, come out fighting next weekend. It'll be a great crowd.

"If we concede goals like that, we're not going to beat anyone - it doesn't matter who we play.

"It's a different game next week, we've got another week in training. People like Victor will have another good week and we've got to get on with it now."

Some big teams around the corner?

"Yeah but I think we're capable of beating a team like Chelsea. I wouldn't say that about Man City, but other than that we can give them tough games - if we don't concede stupid goals.

"It's how to eliminate that, really."

Thought what he said there is pretty much correct.

Now it's up to him to try and stop these silly mistakes!!!

He sounds and looks resigned to going down. The team are just shot to pieces and playing without any fight or confidence now. We got 30 points last time and sadly I think that's all we'll get this time too. West Ham just have to turn up next week as we will just put 3 points on a plate for them.

Can’t disagree with Neil. He’s being let down defensively.
Having said that we’re not telling him to go all out attack away at all.
He did the same at Newcastle and we were tonked.
West Ham and Brighton will make or break our season.
Sol out now. Centre defence no choice.
Need Gunnar, Arter, Camarasa and Bacuna midfield. Physical and hard working.
Niasse / Reid and Zohore up front. 4132.
In Warnock we trust.

Yep. Spot on.
Same against Watford. Should have had a penalty to bring us to 1-1 first half and a possible last defender red card.

wolves dominated for about 80% plus of that game. we did have a decent start, but that's all it was.

they looked a superior team to us in every way today. football can be strange, because we beat them at home and home advantage shouldn't make that much of a difference.

I'll tell you something else that's "the same old story".

Launching every single attacking throw in and free kick and corner at Morrison's head.

EVERY SINGLE TIME!!!!

As we create virtually nothing from open play it is vital that we fully utilise the opportunities we have at set plays, Perhaps a variation or two every now and again - a short throw and keeping possession, a short corner, a darting run from a quick free kick?

No f*cking chance. It must be so easy to defend against us when it's so obvious what we are going to do every time at every set piece. Wolves just put three tall players on Morrison at every throw in and unsurprisingly he won f**k all.

TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT FOR A f*cking CHANGE!!!!
