Agent Willie McKay speaks out in national TV interview as revelations cast doubt over lawfulness of Emiliano Sala flight -

Friday 1st March 2019

Fresh doubt has been cast over the lawfulness of the flight carrying Emiliano Sala after football agent Willie McKay confirmed in a national TV interview that the flight was not arranged on the basis of "cost-sharing".

McKay has previously spoken out about arranging the flight for the new Cardiff City signing, but said he had no part in selecting the plane or pilot. You can read his full statement on that here .

An official report from the UK Air Accident Investigation Branch was published this week, where investigators confirmed that the light aircraft could not be used for commercial operations without prior permission.

At the time of writing their report, released on Monday, they said there was no evidence that such permission had been sought or granted.

Mr Ibbotson, who remains unaccounted for, held a private pilot's licence, which "does not allow a pilot to carry passengers for reward; to do so requires a commercial licence".

In terms of the status of the flight, the report said: "The basis on which the passenger was being carried on N264DB has not yet been established but, previously, the pilot had carried passengers on the basis of ‘cost sharing’.

"Cost sharing allows a private pilot to carry passengers and for those passengers to contribute towards the actual cost of the flight."

Speaking to the BBC, McKay Senior said: "It was a bit embarrassing in Cardiff's situation, because they buy a player that's 17million euros and then leave him in a hotel trying to go on the computer and look for a flight from Cardiff to Nantes, and then back again.

"Of course I think they could have done more.

"The AAIB came up and interviewed ourselves, and they told us that the plane was more than capable of doing that flight, they told us also that the pilot, David Ibbotson, had done his medical and was also okay to fly the plane.

"When you phone a taxi and a taxi comes, you don't ask 'do you have your driving licence?', 'is your car MOT-ed?'

"It's just things you don't even think about. I was just thinking about getting the boy back home, which he wanted."

Cardiff City chiefs have previously spoken about how offers were made for Sala to fly commercially via Paris, but say they were told by the player he had alternative arrangements.

Absolutely disgusting human being, worst than a slug, you can tell how he made his millions by dodgy dealing and slander.

In the short term he's making us look silly but long term he's f***** when everything does come out.

I hope his career is completed obliterated by this.

rightly so, Warnock is our football manager and should not be dragged into this tit for tat nonsense. Its for the lawyers to sort now and the club should only be releasing carefully thought out statements.

Luke, I think the strain had shown on the manager's face in recent weeks and that is only to be expected after what occurred but I thought he looked a little like his old self in his interview today

He has to date handled himself very commendably and I'm sure he will continue to do so. It's tough to mitigate for the pond life that will attach themselves to any negative story that promotes their own agendas and he (and the club) is far better leaving it to the legal team to sort it all out, leaving the manager to sort his football team out ahead of some tough games

It really is, was it him or his son that emailed those released emails basically saying he doesn't care about him and its all about the money.

You'd think a man now exposed as hiding behind his own son 'for business continuation purposes' would be keeping low profile right now; but maybe that sums up the heartless, conceited self-interest of the man?

To be honest I don't think either side of this argument did much wrong in the situation they were in.
The club can't really tell players which form of transport to use privately, although actually they offered to sort his travel arrangements out for him.
The Agent just sorted a private flight out to make the final bits of the deal go smoothly .

I know there will be legal claims made seeking to offset liability against both parties and arguing that they were at fault, but in common sense terms no one had any reason to think Mr. Henderson wasn't going to provide a safe and proper service since he'd apparently done so before.

I can't see then why the two sides are attacking each other so publicly or in such a nasty way. Of course people would have done things differently with hindsight, but I don't think we'd expect either party to be doing airworthiness checks on an aircraft or asking to see the proposed pilot's licence or C.V when they book flights with what is ,on the face of it, a competent carrier.

Some good points but am I being a little 'one-eyed' in saying City haven't really gotten too involved in the public deflections to date? :thumbright:

Its just been stated that the Cardiff City hierarchy had grave concerns about the legality of that doomed flight that cost Sala and his pilot's life,so if City hade these grave concerns you have to ask yourself why in Gods name did they allow recent 17 million star player to go on that deathtrap of a plane in the first place, qustions to be asked and questions to be
answered

No, on reflection the Club itself hasn't been doing that, has it ? You're quite right really , because it's only been individuals saying inflammatory stuff, not the club. They should all calm down though.

Was thinking the same Sven, give this guy enough rope he'll hang himself, starting with the whatsapp txts  and why did Henderson pull out last minute :?: my personal belief is ,Hendersons name was used so as it would have been a legal flight, without thinking the wosrt would happen, hoping if he had landed safely, nothing would seem out of place :?: just a guess, like everything else, except the 1st accident report of course.the truth will come out, eventually :old: :bluebird: :bluescarf:
