Radio host's damning verdict on 'pathetic' Cardiff City as 'relegation would be unfair on Neil Warnock's record'
By Katie Sands

talkSPORT radio host Adrian Durham says the club's performance against Everton was 'embarrassing'

Cardiff City players put on a "pathetic" and "embarrassing" display against Everton while manager Neil Warnock deserves more from them, according to talkSPORT radio hosts.

Cardiff City were soundly beaten at home for the second game in succession on Tuesday night when they lost 3-0 to Everton . It followed a 5-1 defeat to Watford on Friday.

On talkSPORT's Drive show, Adrian Durham and Matt Holland discussed players' attitude and Neil Warnock's comments after Everton's win, with the former dubbing the players' performance as "pathetic".

Bluebirds manager Warnock had said after the game he was "let down" by two or three players.

"We're running out of games. We've got to try and put pressure on the other teams by getting a couple of good results.

"I don't want anyone who's not in the trenches with me on Saturday. We've got to stand up and be counted now. That goes for everyone."

Here's what the talkSPORT hosts had to say

Adrian Durham said: "From the start of this season, Cardiff were up against it, and we all know they've had to deal with an incredible tragedy.

"But every single one of those players, they need to have a look at themselves because that was pathetic last night.

"It was embarrassing for them all as professionals, and I think that Neil Warnock deserves more.

"He's talking wanting people who are going to go into the trenches because he was let down by one or two. That's what he said.

"He says he's not going to throw the towel in, which is basically him throwing it open to the players saying 'well, are you going to throw the towel in?' That was poor from them last night.

"I think the manager, who has taken this rag-bag bunch of players from the bottom of the Championship into the Premier League, he deserves at least 100% commitment from them, doesn't he?"

Cardiff City's defeat to Everton

Matt Holland responded: "Yeah, I think it was a bad night.

"I think on the whole, though, you'd have to say that Cardiff players have given him 100% effort.

"Cardiff this season, much like Huddersfield last year, if you'd have said to them 17th, they would snap your hands off.

"And that's where they find themselves right now, they've given themselves a great chance.

"So what they've done so far is given Neil Warnock what they've got and have given themselves a chance of staying up.

"They've just had back to back defeats, at home to Watford, and at home to Everton, conceded eight in the process, so that's why he's saying it. He's saying we can't let up now, don't damage the work that we've done up until this point."

Durham went on to say if the club were to get relegated due to the run that they're currently in continuing, "then that's solely down to the players".

"I don't think it's fair Warnock has a relegation on his record when it's solely down to the players.

[i]"There's nothing more he could have done, how well he managed such an incredible situation, such a tragic situation, and at the same time managed his football club as well. He deserves far more from those players.
"

Cardiff's next game is away to Wolves on Saturday, who - Warnock admitted - will probably be "full of glee that they're facing us after conceding eight goals in two games".

The Bluebirds boss added: "But I think we can put in a good performance down there. I basically know what my my team's going to be."

I listened to Adrian Durham and Matt Holland yesterday afternoon on my travels and it was an interesting debate

We all know Durham is the ultimate 'wind up' merchant and his show depends on him being deliberately controversial

Personally, I find it amusing but in amongst his 'stirring of the pot' he does make a lot of sense and I think that the points both men (Durham and former City target Holland) could be somewhat valid but I would stop short of vilifying individuals; the squad need to work together to put in a performance this weekend and (hopefully) do the double over the Wolves with a battling performance as good as the one from last season

Bring it on...! :thumbright: :ayatollah: :bluescarf: :bluebird:

I turned it off. Mainly because most of what he was saying seemed true. He did make the point that he was only talking about the last 2 games.

We've regrouped before we can do it again!

I think Warnock has done well to deflect negativity towards players all season but I think it's time to loosen the cotton wool and let them take it now... it might wake them up a bit

I didn’t hear the show but I agree with most of what is written above.
From players like Bennett passing the ball out of play and several others just passing to the opposition to Gunnarsson kicking the ball up in the air constantly, it was an embarrassing display.
No confidence, no composure and little or no quality on Tuesday night we have a huge uphill battle on our hands.

Saying that, let’s keep things positive as it is in the stadium at the moment because on here there’s some pathetic posts full of negativity and poison.

“Money for old rope” we don’t need these pundits to tell us the obvious, and it was pathetic,FFS there was no passion and no quality in midfield, we played well for 35 mins and then they cut through our midfield.

there was illness and injuries mate and a choice to be made... bit like going to Tesco and no warburtons bread so you choose another brand knowing whatever u get the wife wont like it..

won 7 Mozza played in 5...was initially to go on bench but was asked to start due to the above. we have plenty of players that would have said no because they hadn't had an haircut to pick on.

Adrian Durham is a complete clown and as arrogant as they come. We are in a great position and one I would have taken. It’s going to be hard but we have a chance. But we knew it would be hard all along, as for players. They have given everything, sometimes other players and teams are just better. They will fight for the last ten games and if that’s not enough so be it.

durham is a gobshite.

matt holland is a good, balanced pundit who knows the game so it's interesting to hear what he has to say. as you'd expect, he wasn't as hysterical, pointing out that we gave 100%, and have given ourselves a good chance of staying up, which is all you could expect.

what most people have missed is that it's a fine line being one of the worst teams in the league. if you have a couple of off days, this will be fully and ruthlessly exposed by most PL teams. it is very difficult to sustain the sort of form that we have in the previous two games, which incidentally included a game against arguably the most disappointing team in the league this year (southampton).
