The ref

Fri Feb 22, 2019 10:50 pm

An absolute disgrace! I 100% blame the ref for tonight’s defeat. That penalty on Murphy was a game changing decision, I can’t remember ever seeing such a clear cut penalty not given! We would never have left only Manga back for that free kick if it was 1-1 and that allowed Deulofeu to hit us on the break. People will look at the score, but we would have never have left ourselves wide open for Watford and Deulofeu if the ref did his job. Got to bounce back Tuesday now!

I blame warnocks selection but certainly a pen. Odd decision.

He was poor but this is on Warnock

I'm convinced we could lose 12-0 and some fans would still say we would have won if it was'nt for the ref.

The ref was as poor as virtually every ref in the Premier League but he was absolutely not the reason we lost today.

The reason we lost was that the wrong team was selected, the tactics were poor and we were comprehensively outplayed by a Watford side who were massively better than we were.

We tried hard as we always do but the gulf in class was enormous.

Did you watch the game? Did you see the penalty?

If the ref did his job and we went in 1-1 at half time, do you think we would have only left Manga back on the half way line for an attacking free kick?

Do you think the fact we were losing had an impact on Deulofeu being able to capitalise as he was left in oceans of space because we had to go more attacking and gamble?

I can accept being beaten, but I can't accept being beaten when the referee had a massive impact on the game by failing to give the most obvious penalty you'll ever see. This is supposedly a Premiership ref!

I think the referee should be relegated a few divisions until he realises a player sliding straight through the back of an opponent in the box is a definite penalty.

Yes I did watch the game and yes I saw the penalty incident. I also saw that we were soundly beaten by a superior side to us, who were fully deserving of their victory. Football is full of what if's. We could have gone in 1-1 at half time and just as easily lost 6-1 as go on to win the match. Tonight was a bad one, it's done and now they need to pick themselves up and move on to the next one. Pointless blaming the ref every time we lose.

I'm astounded you can't see what a crucial game changing decision that penalty was. It totally impacted the way the second half panned out. We had to chase the game and left ourselves open for Deulofeu to capitalise.

That's what I thought 2 blue. Any Watford fans reading this will be pissing themselves laughing, 5-1 and it's the ref's fault. We were outclassed in every department, and once the blue blinkers are removed, the scoreline was a true reflection in the difference between the two sides this evening. I think we could have made a better fight with a different team selection, but in the end we just have to accept that at this moment in time, Watford are unfortunately way ahead of us.

You must have been watching a different game then, as we had 3 more goal attempts than Watford and we started the second half by far the better team until Deulofeu hit us on the break for their second. The third goal shortly after killed us and Watford then took charge with their momentum and confidence.

It could have been a totally different second half if the referee did his job though. Unfortunately, we will never know.

one is the reason for the other..
yes huge gulf in class and yes our manager knows this..so he comes up with something he and the coaching staff think might work in closing the gulf...its going to not work more than it does work..
now if we had sufficient quality to be outplaying these teams I might agree with all this team selection/tactics milarky..but we don't, we don't have any players that would be of use to them or most other premier league teams.
