Football agent Willie McKay is ready to demonstrate that Cardiff City were so pleased to have him working for them that he did ground work on two other possible deals for manager Neil Warnock, as well as Emiliano Sala, in the January transfer window.



Cardiff are prepared to use McKay’s admission that he created an artificial market for the player and then booked the flight in which Sala died, as a way of avoiding paying Nantes or suing him.

Cardiff view him as an agent of Nantes, the club who had mandated him to find a buyer for Sala.

But McKay - who is extremely confident that the Air Accidents Investigation Branch will declare within days that he did not own the Piper Malibu aircraft – will point to how Warnock wanted help to further his interest in signing midfielder Bouna Sarr and striker Konstantinos Mitroglou, both at Marseille.

If Cardiff delay payment and force Nantes to go to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to recover the £15m fee agree for Sala, McKay will relate how he lined up a meeting for Warnock and his assistant Kevin Blackwell with Andoni Zubizarreta, Marseille’s director of football, on December 5.

Sarr – whom Warnock was especially keen on - was not for sale and Mitroglou went to Galatasaray instead. Warnock, Blackwell and McKay then met Nantes’ president Waldemar Kita to discuss Sala.

WhatsApp messages about Sala sent by Cardiff’s player liaison officer, Callum Davies, form part of a dossier of evidence gathered by McKay to support his claim that the club knew full well that plans had been made to fly him to and from Nantes - and that no one showed the remotest concern before news of the crash came in.

Davies WhatsApped McKay’s son Jack – a Cardiff under-23 player – on the day the plane crashed. The message, seen by Sportsmail, said: ‘Hey bud, just so there’s no confusion, spoke to your dad last night and I’m getting Sala from the airport tonight and will bring him into training tomorrow.’

Sala wanted a flight back to Nantes after signing for Cardiff so he could tie up loose ends, say his goodbyes and be back in Cardiff for training on the Tuesday morning.

Cardiff offered a range of options, including train from Cardiff to Heathrow for a flight to Paris Charles de Gaulle and onward train to Nantes, or flights home via Amsterdam.

Warnock said on Thursday that his club would ‘take care’ of the problem of the first instalment of the fee payable to Nantes – the deadline for which has been extended to next Wednesday.

‘I'm sure the club will take care of it in the coming days, because [chairman Mehmet Dalman] asked for an extension and Nantes has agreed,’ Warnock said.

‘On reflection, I think certain things were done that on reflection should not have been done. That stirred everyone up. It created stories that shouldn't have been there.’

Doesn't mean jack shit ,McKay is a football agent that does transfers the facts are he was employed by Nantes for this transfer and even if he did work for both he still a range the flight and is negligent

Irrelevant. If he can demonstrate that we were party to the agreement of his remuneration for this deal then maybe there's a case for him being jointly appointed. In which case Nantes would bear half the loss. Possible I suppose.

i't would be more useful if Mr McKay were to tell us why he was prepared to fly multi million pound players using tin pot operators.

I would say that's the duty of the operator, it has been alledged that may be one and the same. I cant see Mckay dealing with the dozens of bits of work that go into it. Landing fees both ends, parking fees, maintenance plans, flight plans.

McKay certainly had a duty of care to provide a suitably qualified, licenced and insured operator and that's where he may have fell short.

If he'd agreed a seperate fee with Sala or Cardiff to provide the flight then you could probably conclude that it wasn't part of the contract .But in the initial desperation to get around the incorrect licence issue they claimed the flkight was a favour. He's squeeling far too much for my liking.

As above he had a duty of care to Emiliano and the club to safely deliver him to Cardiff to start his career, he failed to do so resulting in the tragic loss of life of a young man in his prime that's what needs to be investigated !!!!

If you book a taxi via a registered taxi firm do you select the car and driver? No you book in good-faith that the vehicle and driver provided are all above board.

McKay hasn't been Negligent in my opinion the flight charter company has.

Doesn’t get away from fact that he booked plane and therefore should of checked all derails as to who flew it.
