We need to make up our minds?

Do we continue to say Emiliano Sala was a Cardiff player or not?

I made up my mind a long time back. To me, he was a Nantes player who was about to become a City player. Legally, he may have been an employee of CCFC, but as far as I am concerned, you have to play for Cardiff to become a Cardiff player. We have youngsters on the books who are loaned out to other clubs, eventually released permanently, and many of us never actually get to see them, or even know their names. They have never made an appearance for us, and I don't consider any of them to be a Cardiff player if they have never played a game for us.

This is not an argument about us not paying the transfer fee, we may well be liable for it, and if so must settle up with Nantes. This is just my personal opinion as to whether he was a Cardiff player. I never saw him wear a Cardiff shirt, in fact I have never set eyes on him, and that is why I could not share in all the stuff about naming a stand after him, chanting his name every game etc. To me, he was a player who was about to become a Cardiff player, but unfortunately never quite did. I will only remember him as a Nantes player who was on his way to us.

cant argue with any of paragraph one..
as for paragraph 2 its strange how much the posts have changed over the month..its gone from naming stands, erecting statues and retiring a shirt number to finding any possible excuse to not pay..

as I said above , I wish our club had cast doubts straight away which would have toned down the OTT reaction.

I don't think it matters, let the lawyers deal with if it was official or not and what the repercussions of it will be. The law will most likely decide who should pay and who shouldn't and what insurance will cover what and the club have said they will do what's right.

The fact remains even if he wasn't officially signed legally he was in the process of being signed and would have been a Cardiff City player, I don't see any difference from last week when people sang his name.

Not sure why people are trying to make a big thing about it to knock people. Yes the stand naming and statue stuff was stupid but that's life, people go over the top from time to time. I feel some of our fans are being very petty about it for no reason to be honest. Its still a tragedy.

I agree with Steve Zodiak; and others need to remember this isn't about Emiliano Sala the person; it's about his contractual position with either FC Nantes or Cardiff City FC

You're also right about how much comments have changed in recent weeks (not months) and I stated that things (statues, stand naming, shirt retiring, etc.) were a little premature at the time.

We need to let the club do their work and the facts (not necessarily the media reports) will out

As also stated previously, Cardiff City FC have a good record of keeping things 'in house' until they have something to say and that's the way I personally prefer it :thumbright:

I think it will be interesting to see if there are any Sala songs being sung tonight and next Tuesday.

sorry but its an honest opinion, always thought and said that the current regime have been first class including the in house bit...
not so in this instance, the club sending a delegation to Argentina and inviting the players family here all while drawing up plans to deny he was ever our player and sending letters out with words to the effect of ..a player we tried to sign ..is actually not keeping the issues separate.. its one or other. or do we go back to saying he was our player if all these schemes fail ?

the registrations { which have not been kept in house }.. well if your cwmaberbach mondays or Real Madrid you can find out the registration information regarding a player your signings status ..how else would we know Baccuna { who played shortly after signing } or anyone else was eligable..so why not come out straight away and say we do not believe he was ever our player ?

the money will sort itself out , personally i think we will end up paying

Re: We need to make up our minds?

My view on it is that the transfer was accepted by the FAW (which is the 1st port of call for all our transfers) Sala signed a contract with Cardiff, the issue is now surrounding his PL Registration which is slightly different to a transfer. All players must be registered with the PL to enable them to play in the league, they can however be on the books and available to play cup matches and development matches, just how the likes of Madine and Pilks were used in July/August.

So if the transfer was complete in the eyes of the FAW then Cardiff have to pay up, if the registration is an issue then that has to be dealt with separately. As for contract then surely that is between player and club and nothing to do with the FAW, the FA or the PL?

We all know that whatever happens Cardiff will do the right thing according to the outcome of the situation, if that means paying we will pay.

As for singing Sala’s name I think it all hinges on the above, there have been plenty of players over the years we’ve sung about whilst transfers were ongoing, and those who have sat in the development squad. I don’t see an issues with singing his name in memory as long as the above is correct (if that makes any sense at all  )

Personally, I think we will end up paying as well. To be honest, I don't particularly care one way or the other. It provides a topic for discussion, but nothing more as far as I am concerned. Not my money, other people are paid highly to sort out this sort of stuff. Once the game gets under way tonight, it will be the last thing on my mind. The only thing that I really care about are whether or not we are going to pick up enough points over the remaining games to finish outside of the bottom three. Nothing else really matters to me, it's all just something to discuss from time to time between games. Once this saga comes to an end, we will find another topic to chat about between matches.

No need to apologise, it's your opinion and you have indeed been supportive of the current club hierarchy :thumbright:

I just think (actually I know) the club took an early decision not to engage publicly until they had all the facts to hand and (let's be fair) the supposed 'leaks' to date have come from other sources, have they not?

As stated, I am not really interested in speculation. He was either our player or not and the Rules, Regulations and football authorities (FA, Premier League, FAW, UEFA, FIFA or whoever) will eventually make that decision

Vincent Tan is very unhappy with a few people right now (and they know it) and wants this 'put to bed' with speed and with the minimum of fuss and that certainly won't include giving out unsubstantiated information to the masses
