"Don't mention Sala without mentioning the pilot"

Fri Feb 08, 2019 10:46 pm

It's definitely something of a relief that Emiliano's body has been found, so everyone involved can mourn properly now, and essentially move on (not completely of course). But just a slight pet peeve of mine right now, is peoples arrogance towards the situation, and constantly correcting me and others when we mention Emiliano, by saying "I hate how you're disregarding david Ibbotson as if his life is less important". Nobody is saying that, implied that, or thinking that.

This is definitely a controversial post if you don't see it the same way as me, but the fact is the situation for both men is equally as devastating, of course it is. But as a Cardiff fan, and as many on here, we invested a lot of excitement and expectation into this new hero to come to Cardiff and solve our attacking woes, so by the time he was announced missing a lot of us got a little attached to who was the new big signing. I can't remember ever being as happy as I was for ever getting a signing before, but everything I saw, read and heard of Emiliano was extremely positive.

Now, when the announcement about the missing plane was made, I'll admittedly say that I obviously was only concerned for one man, which might seem horrible to say, but I'm just being honest. I hoped good news for the pilot of course I did, but I didn't appreciate being told off for not mentioning the pilot every time I talked about Emiliano. I just felt like I was being told off and I was being insensitive.

Well, now that Emiliano has been found, and I've said RIP and everything like that on social media, I get a couple comments trying to be justice warriors saying "he wasn't the only one on the plane you know" and similar stuff like that.

I'm sorry but if I can't say RIP to someone - for one reason or another - feel has a bond with Cardiff now and obviously feel extremely sad about when I think about the situation, I don't see why I need to force myself to make fake tributes to somebody I don't even know other than "He is a pilot with a family". It's awfully sad for him and his family but if I'm being insensitive then so are all of us for our "Sing a song for Sala" but not for David...

Just saying. Don't know what I'm trying to gain from this post, but just felt curious to see peoples thoughts on it.

*Edit*

Maybe one point for this post is to tell people maybe if somebody doesn't feel emotionally attached to the pilot, maybe it's best not to try and make them feel bad about it and don't "correct" someone for speaking about Emiliano without mentioning the pilot.

I feel equally sorry for the families of both people. I hate hearing of accidents like this, and I see no difference between the hurt the Sala family will be feeling compared to the Ibottson family. I feel just as sorry for the family of those four poor children who died in the house fire a couple of days back. I obviously knew none of any of these people, and while I find it all upsetting, I am not grief stricken or anything like that.

From a purely selfish point of view, Sala is probably the one I thought about most, because he was to be an important part of keeping the team I support in the PL. From just a humanitarian point of view, his death is no more tragic to me than any of the others I have mentioned. I have only seen photographs of those involved, and none of them meant anything to me personally. I feel for those left behind as well as those who lost their lives, but I don't believe any one of these deaths was less tragic or important than any of the others.

Can see the point the OP is making.

But yes, I would agree with all of that.

It’s a difficult topic, a life is a life and we are all saddened by the events. Most people won’t go there, say what they deem the right thing. If I am honest, I have no connection with the pilot. A lot of people say it because they Also have respect for the pilot but I totally understand if people just mention sala for the reason you have mentioned.

But it’s down to that person.

Tragic event we move on.

Just ignore them.

Of course it OK to say RIP Sala without mentioning the pilot as the pilot is still to be accounted for.

Good posts by OP and Steve tbf.
