Neil Warnock on reports over his future at the club

"I think that was a little bit over the top. As always you get certain tabloids creating stories - but I went in the local paper and put that to bed. Anybody that saw us play the last couple of games will know we’re up for it. It’s a challenge we want to face head-on.”

NEIL WARNOCK:

Warnock on his mindset

"My mind has been back on football, as it’s got to be. I steer the ship, but I have to say the boys and the staff have been great to me. That does matter when you’re a team off the field as well as on it. You could see the response at Arsenal from the players, probably the best away performance. And the Bournemouth game was very good from our point of view, football wise.”

"Over the past few weeks, there have been times when I thought 'is it worth it, being a football manager after all that's happened?"

"But I'm looking forward to (the rest of the season), I've got a responsibility to the club."

Neil Warnock on the latest news about Emiliano Sala

"While everybody expects the worst when it happens, I got a phone call last night and it was strange. It brings the family peace, offers them comfort - that’s what Sharon said from the start. I don’t know how it’s affected the players, one or two have always been a little sensitive.”

Tributes planned for Southampton

"I think we’ve got to pay our respects with the situation now coming to an end, regarding Emiliano. We’ll wear black armbands and have a minute’s silence. I’m sure the Southampton fans will want that as well.”

Neil Warnock on how Cardiff City are trying to move forward

"We all have things like this happen in our lifetime, you just have to move on. You don’t ever forget things like this. You put things at the back of your mind, certain aspects of meeting Emiliano. Fortunately for me, the players have grasped that and now we’ve got 13 cup finals.”

Neil Warnock on the togetherness of the football community following Sala's tragic death

"When I think I’ve seen it all in football, our fans keep surprising me every week now. I don’t think there’s anything that would surprise me with them."

"And the Arsenal fans, Bournemouth fans, fans from clubs all over. When something like this happens it brings all the football family together. It shows that everybody is thinking on the same wavelength and it’s a loss to everyone in football. When you look at the finances they were able to raise to enable the search in the first place, I found that amazing. The response has been unbelievable.”

Neil Warnock has his say on the dispute regarding a payment of Emiliano Sala's transfer fee

NEIL WARNOCK:

"I couldn’t be more grateful to Mehmet and Ken, who are keeping everything away from me. They’re dealing with that and I have enough on my plate in terms of on the field."

"I wouldn’t want any situation to be in better hands than Mehmet’s. He’s seen it all, done it all and been very good throughout this trauma we’ve had."

Neil Warnock on Sala

"He had a dry sense of humour and I liked his music taste. He was just a nice lad, nobody had a bad word to say about him.”

Neil Warnock's personal tribute to Emiliano Sala

"I just think he was a Neil Warnock type of player. He was a scruffy type of player who for me would score 10-15 goals a season, but also a team player, a hard worker. And at the same time he was a really nice lad. And his clothes - they were different. Like Oumar, he’s the same. My daughter wears them as well.”

On the relegation battle and Southampton

"We’ve had to work hard, like we did on the Bournemouth fixture - especially after beating Chelsea 4-0. You have to work on your strengths and what you think are the opponents’ weaknesses. Clubs like Southampton maybe didn’t expect to be in the position they’re in, whereas we did. We’ll go there in good spirits and give them a good game.
In the next few games, there’s no game we shouldn’t try and win. We want a good result on Saturday.”

Warnock on his players

"I just want the same attitude. We played some good stuff and it’s enjoyable to watch when they play like that. I enjoyed every minute at Arsenal, not the misses, and it was the same on Saturday. There won’t be a question mark about me questioning the commitment of the players. They always give me everything, they don’t get much criticism from me. “

Emiliano Sala confirmed dead: Global football stars pay tribute to Cardiff City striker

Friday 8th February 2019

Football stars from around the world have paid tribute to Emiliano Sala.

A body was recovered from the plane wreckage found in the English Channel earlier this week.

And following an identification process, Dorset Police confirmed the body found was that of Cardiff City striker Sala.

Tributes have since poured in for the 28-year-old.

A number of Cardiff City players - including Oumar Niasse, Sol Bamba and Joe Bennett - have paid their respects to the 28-year-old.

And numerous global football stars have also taken to social media to pay tribute to Sala.

Writing on his official Twitter account, Arsenal's Mesut Ozil said: "No words to describe how sad this is. Thoughts and prayers go out to his family and also to the family of the pilot. #RIPSala."

Man City striker and Sala's compatriot Sergio Aguero wrote: "Terribly sad. Rest in peace, Emiliano. My condolences to his friends and family. #PrayforSala."

In Spanish, Newcastle United defender Federico Fernandez commented: "Rest in peace. Strength to the family. #RIP."

And Paris Saint-Germain and France star Kylian Mbappe simply wrote: "RIP Emi."

The UK Air Accident Investigation Branch confirmed on Wednesday that they had successfully recovered the body from the plane wreckage in "challenging conditions", while the operation to recover the aircraft was aborted.

The body was passed into the care of the Coroner of Dorset, with formal identification taking place on Wednesday.

Neil Warnock on his emotions at the end of Cardiff City's win over Bournemouth last weekend

NEIL WARNOCK:

"I was surprised I shed a tear. But things catch up with your after tragedies, there’s nothing wrong with that really. I’m sure any parent would have been thinking about Emiliano in that moment really."

"Sharon and my family have been amazing, that’s what families are for really. You can get criticised, but you have to have a broad back to last as long as I have really. Although things are hurtful - things have happened at school - the kids can take it a bit more. But I say you’ve got to bite your tongue.”

Nantes to retire number 9 jersey

President Waldemar Kita, has confirmed that the club will retire the number nine jersey

This is the right thing to do, it’s done in other sports (ice hockey) hopefully Cardiff will do the same, give him the 27 and retire it

Now more than ever we need to get behind NW and give him and the squad the support they rightfully deserve, he’s had the perfect opportunity to leave us, as can be seen with his thoughts here, but he’s staying his course.

Please let’s stop with the NW out posts

Number 9 meant something to him at Nantes. He didn't wear 27 for us, or any other number, sadly. Not appropriate in my opinion. It would be a self-indulgent gesture on our behalf.

Totally disagree with you, he had chosen 27 so its fitting it is retired, look at it from this point of you, will any player want to come in and have number 27, very highly doubtful. It's something that we can do to honour Emil and his family.

Neil Warnock on Emiliano Sala's potential

"Because he wasn’t a young kid, he was at the prime. He’d been in a comfort zone in France, but he’d improved every few years. He was a little bit fearful of the challenge ahead but he knew he had to make that step. I believed he could score goals in the Premier League and it’s probably easier joining Cardiff when we’re a close-knit group of lads."

"He had all the ingredients to mix with us.”
