Joe Ralls has turned the corner

Mon Feb 04, 2019 11:35 am

I think it’s no co-incidence that now we have a player up top who can hold the ball and bring others in that our midfield is functioning a lot better. I think this has brought Joe Ralls to the fore.

He is now looking like a Premiership player. I think he has finally realised he is and has stopped looking overawed by his opponents.

Remember it took him a while to adjust to the Championship but once he did he really started to influence games.

I’m really excited to see his continued development.

Though he will probably have to make way for the returning Arter/Camarasa next game broadly speaking I agree.

He was excellent on Saturday but, unfortunately, he's not quick enough or physical enough to make it longterm at this level. One good game does not mean anything. Are we really saying he should stay in ahead of Arter ?

He will do a decent job stepping in like on Saturday but I just don't think he's good enough to be a regular starter.

That said, nothing should take away from his excellent performance against Bournemouth.

Ralls wouldn't be my first choice, but I have to admit when he's used in a more attacking role he was superb.

Always liked Ralls, yes he has his limitations but no where near as bad as some people make out. Wouldn't make my first 11 but a great player to have in a squad.

It takes a while to adapt to the demands of the Premier league and I really think Ralls is beginning to do so. I've always rated him.

Why does he have to make way for Arter? Sure, Arter runs around a lot, but what is he actually better than Ralls at?

Passing, heading, tackling, organising and marking ....................... and probably penalties although I haven't seen him take one yet

I would have Arter over Ralls any day of the week.

Tackling meh on a par
Organising no, he just claps when we concede
Marking definitely not...

Well if you really think that Ralls compares favourably with Arter on heading, organising and tackling then we'll just have to agree to differ

Sorry fella.
I've agreed with a lot of people that Ralls has improved dramatically last few games.

But to say he is better than Arter, you must be watching a completely different game.
Arter is far, far better than Ralls. No question.

ralls' achilles heel is his first touch and range of passing. particularly his first touch - it means he's always rushed on the ball. gunnarsson has improved his passing immeasurably in the past couple of years so it can be done.

he's pretty solid everywhere else, and was one of the first names on the team sheet last year. he was unplayable at times.

A very good championship player that every team needs, he’s really struggled this season and that is just due to the step up in quality and speed. I like him but felt for him, I wasn’t overly excited when he was named against arsenal. I was at that game and he was absolutely superb and again Saturday. Not as talented as the others, would I drop him? No.
