I dont know if anyone has suggested this or whether it's already been thought of.
But surely a Home and Away friendly between us and Nantes should be arranged with all the money going to Emiliano's family.
End of season or pre season friendlies, it would be a sell out for both games Im sure

There have been some truly mental suggestions about stuff we could do, but here's an excellent and sensible one.
It's the obvious and most sensible one and in fact I was going to suggest it myself once the dust has settle a bit.
You could produce a trophy , named after the poor young man, and do it every year in the summer.
Two legs would be great but alternate fixtures would probably be more practical .
You could establish a charitable trust ,making the proceeds tax free, and give 75% to the family to guarantee their future financial security, with the remainder going into a separate trust for the financial benefit of future football related disasters, and thus second trust could also receive donations from other sources.
Failing all that, then a straightforward Testimonial match might be an alternative .

According to various reports the club are liable for sala’s salary which will go to his family. I am not quite sure they will need further funding if truthful, maybe the clubs between could pick a charitable cause that Sala; via consultation with his family, would have chosen.
It’s all ifs and bits of course.

Think Nantes have just pissed in their own fire the past few days, poor timing and poor business sense.

Two things - the players / fans have to rise above 2 businesses arguing over money. Think of the greater good.
I dont think anyone knows what is in that contract other than the 2 chairmen and on our side Capital Law.
So you would be looking for a clause in the contract that mentions death in service and then any sub clauses where that would probably mean death on the pitch or at a training ground.
Think about this - is a city player - gets in his car after training and drives home - has a car crash and dies - would the club be expected to pay up his contract - when it had nothing to do with the club. The player decides what they do, what route, what method of transport etc.
You would then also look at contract clauses that have been unfulfilled, unfortunatley this would mean appearances, goals scored, avoiding relegation etc - none of that will be fulfilled.
The point Im getting at is that of course Nantes are duty bound to ask for the money (so would we) and of course we are also duty bound to withhold payment until the cause of the crash is determined and then we can take a legal position.
Like I said this is just the usual due process that businesses need to go through - best ignore it - let them do what they need to do.

You're absolutely right, but human nature will not allow such common sense to prevail .
In the end all this over the top goodwill towards Nantes will probably become over the top hostility and if the two teams ever played each other then there'd probably be big punch ups .
Everyone is putting their unqualified two bobs worth in about the legal situation and demanding an outcome which matches their personal expectation, and looking round for someone to blame for what was basically a horrible and tragic fatal accident.
It really is time now to accept the harsh realities of the event, stop fixating upon the ins and outs of it and return to the common interest in football and our own progress as a Football Club.
Let the lawyers sort out the financial disputes and the Priests sort out the perplexing spiritual issues. No further good can come from collectively dwelling morbidly on the matter.
