JACKS day just got a lot worse

Jacks Chairman has tonight announced that he is stepping down from his role at the stricken Club.

In a Statement just released he has cited that the relationship with the Americans has 'slowly eroded' him and, that can only mean one thing. He has no power within the clubs hierarchy.

Its getting worse by the minute for the jacks

Since they are into their Parachute payments, it is widely known that the American owners are Asset Stripping Swansea. With the departure of high profile players in this transfer window, it was the last straw for Jenkins.

That all coincides over the pond with the American Franchise of DC United having permission to build their new stadium, as they are getting Crowds for each home game in excess of 50k- a new stadium will accommodate a further 20k, which will take their capacity up to 60k +

So, not a very gappy camp down at the City of Shitsea Stadium.

Huw Jenkins was appointed OBE in the 2015 Queen's Birthday Honours.
Huw Jenkins has stepped down as chairman of Championship club Swansea City.

Jenkins, 55, was appointed chairman in January 2002 and oversaw a huge reversal in fortunes.

The club almost dropped out of the Football League in 2003 before rising up the divisions to win Premier League promotion in 2011.

"It comes with great sadness but I feel I've been left with little or no option [but] to leave my position," he said.

Jenkins had been criticised by some Swansea supporters since the takeover of the club in 2016 by American pair Jason Levien and Steve Kaplan,

Calls for him to step down intensified since the club's relegation to the Championship last season.

Trust criticise 'short-sighted' Swansea owners

On Saturday, Swansea City Supporters' Trust criticised the club's owners for lacking ambition and called for Jenkins to stand down.

It came in the wake of a January transfer window in which the club lost further players and made no signings.

"Swansea City has been a massive part of my life from a very young age," Jenkins added.

"I have been very fortunate to fulfill my childhood dreams over the last 17 years or so providing direction and leadership at the club whilst moving through the football leagues and competing with the elite of British football in the Premier League for seven seasons.

"Gradually over the last few seasons my role as Chairman providing such leadership and direction has been eroded away.

"Finally I can sit back no longer and hide behind my position and stay true to myself and my beliefs."

Swansea spent seven seasons in English football's top-flight after the beating Reading in the Championship play-off final at Wembley in May 2011.

The Welsh club won the Football League Cup in 2013 and qualifying for the Europa League.

"To have lead our football club through the greatest period in the clubs history has been a fantastic experience," Jenkins added.

"The atmosphere that we created within the club was without a doubt one of the key factors to our success over many.


"The directors and staff that worked with me over the last 17 years supported me with total trust and loyalty and we all shared a true Love for Swansea City and we operated like true supporters to run the club from top to bottom."

Jenkins was lauded for the managerial appointments of Roberto Martinez, Brendan Rodgers and Michael Laudrup during his time in charge of Swansea, which also saw the club move to the Liberty Stadium.

But recent seasons had seen the club struggle in the Premier League with frequent managerial changes, culminating in relegation at the end of the 2017-18 campaign.

"Sound managerial choices helped me build the football club and with the working relationships I developed provided our football club with a solid platform to achieve unrivaled success over many of those earlier years and that's one of the things l shall miss most about my time as chairman.

"I would like to thank all the staff and players past and present and the clubs supporters who have supported me fully over the last 17 years.

"It has taken me some time to finally come to this decision but the current atmosphere with in the football club on and off the football field saddens me very much and I find it very difficult to fight on in a football club I love but can no longer control."

Probably not as they have off loaded so many of their top players and the article states the owners are 'asset stripping' so there must be money to take out. Mind you if it did happen then you wouldn't find me complaining.

I think he's still there isn't he, although he wasn't involved yesterday. The asset stripping will go full throttle now. Any player they can get a fee for goes before the start of next season. Anyone else on more than a grand or two a week offloaded. Non playing staff cut to the absolute bone and the training ground sold or at least taken out of the ownership of Swansea City.

Nailed on for relegation next season with the American owners walking away some time the following year once parachute payments have been fully exploited. At that point sold for what they can get, which may be a quid or possibly given to the trust.

I'd be interested to read Huw ap Jenkins thoughts on how/why the club was sold to the Americans, as he always seemed to have his finger on the pulse at that club

As much as I dislike the 'Jack' supporters in recent years (historically they meant little or nothing to Cardiff City) I think Jenkins should be acknowledged for what he (and his team) did for the Welsh Wigan

jenkins had the midas touch for a few years it seems. they were a well run club with a clear direction, and now that's all gone.

they have owners who presumably bought the club to hope it would just go up in value without any further investment. liverpool and united can get away with this because they have a brand to exploit. swansea have nothing apart from the 11 players on the field of play.

nowadays they're just a mediocre championship team playing the lottery each year and just hoping they get promotion.

Makes you thankful that we have Vincent Tan here as owner as if we stay up, and I'm sure we will, we will grow quickly as a club I feel as things are in place for growth

i'm genuinely amazed that their owners think they'll be fine without jenkins. spending money is no guarantee of success, but spending very little is almost a guarantee of failure. their model is highly unlikely to deliver success for swansea.

In case you did'nt notice, I did not mention Jenkins, and I am aware he is no longer there as I have read the statement issued by the Trust. I also do not recall saying anything about being hypocritical or that they had not been well run in the past. I said what goes around comes around as the poster in question took great delight in saying how well Swansea were run and how we should be worried about having a sole foreign owner running our club. Right now I would prefer to have Tan than the Yanks who are running the show at Swansea. However, I will not be going on to Planet Swans to gloat about this, as I know things can change quickly in this game.

Swansea were on borrowed time with their philosophy of selling good players at a profit instead of supplementing them, instead they bought cheaper versions in the main! It was always going to fail in long term, only need to see Bournemouth improving squad year on year swansea failed to do that and like all the teams that failed to improve squad they were relegated sooner than later.
