Sorry. Saw someone suggested the 4-4-2 tomorrow and couldn't help myself.

Did you have to mention those two?

I was in the middle of my tea.

Russell Slade - forced to work with one arm behind his back dealing with cut back after cut back to clear out the horrendous mess Ole left us in. Financially stabilised our club while keeping us competitive on the pitch with only 2 home defeats in his one and only full season with us. Probably the most important managerial appointment in our history in my opinion.

Bang on, i was praising slade the other day and got laughed at. He spent f-all and kept us competitive towards the top of the table, plenty of managers we've had in the past couple of decades who have pissed away money and get more praise than him.

I see where you're both coming from... But to be fair, look at the squad that Warnock got promoted, and look at the squad Slade had...You could make this out of the starting 11

Marshall

Fabio
Morrison
Manga
Peltier

Ralls
Gunnarsson
Tom Lawrence
Kadeem Harris

Zohore
Kenwyne Jones

Are you suggesting we got promoted with a significantly better squad than that?

I do however agree that Slade steadied the ship...however during Soljkaer, Slade and Trollopes term management, I thought we had a squad capable of playoffs atleast. Slade fell short of that twice...

Only 2 home defeats in his one and only full season with us (one of those defeats when we went down to 9 men) and you think he’s an awful manager? I dread to think what your opinion was on the Kenny Hibbitt’s of the world then!

You can stat all you like. I watched the games, I seen the players he had available and he was awful.

we had a squad more than capable of top 6 and bored our way to mid table with a squad mix full of players who had previously been promted, internationals and who had cost 10s of millions. with russ behaving as if he was performing miracles.

as for finacially stabalising MYTH.. yeah we paid up contracts of players he had excluded within 10 days of his arrival only to bring in replacements . had the lowest walk up in 10 years and halved our ST sales, we lost money year on year .. Thank god we appointed Warnock to rectify the 10 years him and Trollope had put us back.

Kenny Hibbitt as poor as he was, and god was he awful, would have got us top 6 with that squad.

Top post and couldn’t agree more.
The myth of stabilising, getting rid of players and sorting contracts was done by Ken Choo.
Any manager could have achieved what Slade did and do it a lot better. The football was the most boring, dire and dross shite I can remember watching.
Thousands of ST holders never even bothered to show up for games.

Look what these three have done since leaving us, Slade sacked three times ? by lower team clubs, Trollope now an established No 2 at a Premier League club and Ole now tipped to be appointed permanent manager at one of the biggest teams in the world! I would suggest than Trollope was probably promoted by our management because he was the brains behind Slade but unfortunately like a lot of good assistants like our present two under Warnock couldn’t make a successful Manager?
