Bluebirds Player Heads Off To Hereford On Loan

1st February 2019

by Terry Phillips

Bluebirds midfield player James Waite has left South Wales to sign for Vanarama National League North club Hereford FC.

Teenager Waite, a skilled and clever playmaker, has joined the Bulls ahead of Saturday’s home match against Curzon Ashton.

While Waite settles in with Hereford, Cardiff City’s under-23 team had their scheduled fixture at Watford called off.

The Welshman would have been in the Bluebirds squad for that Professional Development League clash with Watford had he not made the loan move to Hereford until the end of this season.

It was postponed because of bad weather conditions and will be rearranged.

Wales under-19 international Waite, nicknamed ‘Wedgie’, can play anywhere across midfield or in attack.

He joins fellow Cardiff Academy graduates and current Bulls Tommy O’Sullivan and Theo Wharton at Hereford.

Cardiff manager Neil Warnock rates Waite highly and will be keenly following his progress in the National League.

Hereford have signed the hard-working Waite to replace injured former Merthyr Town player Keyon Reffell.

Bulls head of football Tim Harris says: “James is a diminutive forward who is extremely lively, has an eye for goal and is comfortable playing out wide or in a more advanced role.

“We have a good relationship with Cardiff. I spoke to first team coach James Rowberry and Academy manager James McCarthy and would like to thank them both for their help.”

Former Wales international Ryan Green, a Cardiff-born ex-Bluebirds, Merthyr and Hereford defender, now aged 38, identified Waite as a potential Bulls’ signing before last Christmas and has watched him play a number of times.

Non League Chesterfield have signed striker Jack McKay on loan from Cardiff City, subject to receiving international clearance.

McKay, who will spend the rest of the season at the Proact, said: "I'm a hard-working striker and I can't wait to get started."

The 22-year-old started his career at Doncaster Rovers. After making a handful of appearances for the South Yorkshire club, he joined Leeds United.

While at Leeds, McKay had a spell on loan at Airdrie before moving to Cardiff a year ago following an extended trial.

I honestly thought he would be playing at a higher level than that. I thought the fact he was included in pre-season meant he was close to the first team squad, and might be loaned out to a league 1 or league 2 team. Bit worrying if he's dropping down that far.

Its all down to game time. He may need confidence and game time. He's only young. Remember lampard played for that Swansea team once!

A huge gulf in standards between reserve football and non league. They will learn a lot from these moves and come back with a wealth of experience.

I think the same , apparently one of the better players at our academy and seemingly no league clubs interested .

If nothing else your youth system is producing a number of good players for Hereford.
