NEIL WARNOCK TALKS TRANSFER WINDOW

Fri Feb 01, 2019 12:52 pm

Speaking ahead of Cardiff City v Bournemouth, City manager Neil Warnocktalked about the new faces added to the squad, as well as being philosophical about others that didn't happen...

On signing Leandro Bacuna, he said

“I was determined to get Bacuna over the line. It’s so difficult on deadline day and it’s difficult with us being in Wales, with getting permission and this and that. Something came up late last night but it was impossible to get things done.”

“Wherever the need is, I’ve seen him right back, left back, centre midfield or right wing. We need one or two people like him and Paterson who can help out in numerous positions.

On the window itself, the manager said

“Overall, that’s probably as good a window as we expected with the targets we achieved and the circumstances. We could probably have done with another one but we weren’t going to have a gun put to our head. For one lad abroad the sort of finances were talking, you’d thought the lad was playing for his country regularly. We had to pull the plug on a couple of deals.”

When asked if any additional deals came close on deadline day, he said:

“One of them possibly was, but the terms changed every other day and it was astronomical in the end. Whether they were pushing on our circumstances, I don’t know. I spoke to Mehmet and Ken and we weren’t going to have a gun put to our head?

“We managed to get Bacuna over the line, a lad who I’ve liked for a long time and he’s played in the Premier League with Villa.”

And asked if other clubs knew City's circumstances, he said

“It just came down to personal terms and agents fees and they weren’t what we expected. And even now I don’t think we should jeopardise what we’ve got in the dressing room with greed. Mehmet and Ken tried their hardest but I didn’t want to do it.”

So neils basically said the deals were there to be done but they didnt get done because of the finances and didnt want a gun put to his head.

Well lets hope this dosent cost us the end of the season and we are relegated because theyve had their chance now so on neils head it is. He says he didnt want to upset the dressing room well thats great i hope hes right and it pays off but for me quality gets u points more than dressing room atmosphere. I hope im wrong though and neil is right. You need a balance and i dont think we have enough quality or goals to keep us up personally but ill be supporting the men we got regardless.

Thought if you started a transfer before 11pm you had a bit of time as long as fax was sent?

I guarantee that most of these players we were linked to yesterday you had never heard of! Who's to say they are quality?! Certainly doesn't justify spending a fortune on them.

NW only said what other managers have said this window the demands made by players & agents are to much hence lowest spent since 2012! Quality is not in abundance in January window would you pay 30k a week on an unknown player from Europe?
