A forum for all things Cardiff City
Wed Jan 30, 2019 10:20 pm
Transfer Deadline Day is upon us then.
The window closes in just over 24 hours, at time of writing.
Premier League clubs are unable to make any more signings this season after 11pm on Thursday.
Cardiff City are expected to do business, with Neil Warnock saying on Tuesday that he hopes to make at least two signings - although he admitted he is unlikely to bring in another striker.
We have been linked with central midfielders, right backs and central defenders.
Unfortunately, this window will forever be remembered for sad reasons for all of us who care about Cardiff City Football Club and those connected to FC Nantes - as well as the wider football world. A reminder for us all, that some things are more important than football.

Odds on Austin?
So a move for a striker looks unlikely, but reports yesterday suggested Cardiff were one of four Premier League teams interested in Southampton’s Charlie Austin.
But how likely is a move for Austin?
He’s currently one of the Saints’ biggest earners - boasting a £70,000 a week contract so Cardiff would have to be prepared to pay fairly high wages.
As for a transfer fee, reports a few days ago were that Southampton were looking for £8 million, but given it’s deadline day and there are four relegation rivals vying for his signature, that might push the price up.
All in all, you’d be surprised to see Austin end up in south Wales, but you never know...

Report: Crystal Palace and Cardiff City join Charlie Austin chase
Thursday 21st January 2019
Southampton are willing to sell Charlie Austin this month with Premier League duo Crystal Palace and Cardiff City interested.
Charlie Austin of Southampton celebrates after scoring his team's first goal during the Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton FC at Wembley Stadium on December 5,...
Cardiff City and Crystal Palace have joined an ever-increasing list of clubs keen to sign Southampton striker Charlie Austin, according to the Sun.
The 29-year-old has struggled for minutes since Ralph Hasenhuttl arrived at St Mary’s in December and it is understood that The Saints are willing to sell him this month should an acceptable offer arrive.
The Telegraph claimed last week that Midland duo Aston Villa and Wolves were interested while the Mail has reported that Leicester City are also in the chase.
But they are expected to face competition from Cardiff and Palace with The Sun reporting that they are interested in Austin before January’s transfer deadline.
A £4 million signing from QPR three years ago, Austin has scored just twice in 16 league appearances this season but he has an impressive track record in the top flight.
Charlie Austin of Southampton celebrates after scoring his sides first goal during the Premier League match between AFC Bournemouth and Southampton at Vitality Stadium on December 3, 2017...
The former Burnley forward showed during a stellar 2014/15 season at QPR that he can thrive in a struggling side, scoring 18 goals despite Rangers’ relegation. So that perhaps explains why Cardiff and Crystal Palace are ready to take a punt on him.
The Sun adds that Austin wants to stay in the Premier League, which surely puts pay to Aston Villa’s hopes, while Southampton are only looking to sell rather than send him out on loan.

They tell me on the BBC, ( although I've been unable to verify it with any trusted source), that it's been snowing like buggery in Wales. If so, this will effect any dashes up and down the M4 such as that done by Harry Arter on the last transfer deadline day.
What are the conditions like on the roads down there ..?

Just on talksport the reporter said there's a 50/50 chance of us signing Austin. His 75k a week wages are the stumbling block. Can't see them selling him to us to be honest.
He also mentioned about Remy and the other lad from Lille which seems more likely.

SIR JIMMY SCHOULAR
with the luck we have had lately i can see us been unable to sign any players due to snow and not been able to put pen to paper, and the premier league are not willing to shift there stance no extensions, especially for cardiff, get the welsh out of our league we don' t want to hear cardiff fans singing and taking the p.ss out of englands world cup slip up, and tv editors on match of the day having to edit out our singing.

I do think that is potentially problematic if we're going to let this opportunity go, especially since we see all our direct competitors strengthening their teams. Anything which is going to happen should be well in progress at this point with twelve hours to go, but I'm not hearing any realistic or substantive reports.
Strikers are all very well, and that would be good , but we desperately need a player who can play right back at this level because we just haven't got one at the moment, and that repeatedly costs us goals. If that carries on, I don't see how we can expect to get away with it.
Sky have got a reporter staking out the the training ground and he's saying that he expects a lot of developments, but it's all very vague indeed and the rumours he's talking about don't seem to include a full back, but midfielders and strikers.

https://www.football.london/reading-fc/ ... ssion=trueBreaking news - Bacuna and Meite
football.london understands Leandro Bacuna and Yakou Meite are both set to leave Reading in shock moves today.
Bacuna will join Premier League strugglers Cardiff City, while Meite has completed a move back to France.
Bacuna completed his medical yesterday in the Welsh capital, while Meite returned to France earlier this week to finalise a deal, which is believed to be with Amiens SC in Ligue 1.
More on both of the deals, as we get it.
And don’t forget we’ll be speaking to Reading boss Jose Gomes at lunchtime today at his press conference so we’ll be getting the latest from him very soon.

He's got a bit of pace I think ... haven't seen much of him at Reading mind so going on his Villa games I saw.

Exact fit as far as I can see. Insofar as I can tell from quick Google and YouTube due diligence procedure , he's the missing bit from our team. He can actually play right back properly, fly up the wing, cross the ball like a professional footballer in a manner that it can be used by a centre forward , and even take a good free kick.
He's a bit contraversial and he's got previous for head butting a linesman apparently, so he should get on well with Harry Arter, but I sense the possibility of a Bamba like buy. Obviously not a first choice, but often the very best players start like that. I've no idea how the f**k we've gotten away without a player who can take on this role so far, and I didn't see how we could have expected to win games with such a glaring hole in the team, but this is a guy who can at least do it competently and so we've now got a chance.
It's been like trying to sail a boat with a bloody big hole in the hull and constantly bailing , which I've never liked to point out but which has been obvious. We can never tell but here's at least the chance that we can at last perform like a full team without an obvious defect and it may be the most significant signing of the season, even if it doesn't excite a lot of people who couldn't recognise the problem.
