Will Cardiff shock 'the big six'?

The Bluebirds record against the Premier League's so-called big six this season reads: played eight, lost eight, scored six and conceded 27.

The numbers aren't pretty and highlight the widening chasm between the division's heavyweights and the rest.

It's not just Cardiff who have been on the wrong end of some lop-sided scorelines this term.

Yet in two games against Arsenal, Warnock's men have come close to causing a shock and on each occasion did it with a progressive gameplan that involved two strikers playing off each other; Bobby Reid excelling, Oumar Niasse impressive as a focal point at the Emirates.

It showed what can be done with some spirit and positive thinking.

And while nobody is suggesting Cardiff should expect wins in remaining away trips to Manchester United and Man City this season - nor even in home games against Chelsea and Liverpool - it can be done.

Newcastle demonstrated that by beating Man City and Burnley drew at Old Trafford, only denied a win by two last-gasp Man Utd goals.

Winning the games against teams in and around them in the table hold the key for the Bluebirds, but every single point is going to count from here on in.

Cardiff need to mirror their Arsenal approach as an attacking blueprint for the future.
