Neil Warnock:

"Our best away performance this season" & I'm really proud of the players tonight

Cardiff City Fc

Neil Warnock spoke at Emirates Stadium following his Cardiff City side's gallant defeat to Arsenal on Tuesday evening.

“I thought it was probably our best performance of the season away from home,” began Neil. “We worked on it for a few days and whilst it’s a disappointing result, all credit to the boys."

“It was unprecedented really, with what’s happened this week. It's bound to be emotional. We said before kick-off, for Emiliano, we ought to put a performance in."

"People expected us to lie down, but I don't think we've ever had 19 shots away from home against a good side like that. I thought overall, we were the better side for large periods of the game tonight."

“I know we’ve lost a game of football but there are more important things. I am really proud of the players tonight and proud to be their manager."

Upon the final whistle, Neil and his players showed their appreciation to the 2,000+ away supporters at Emirates Stadium.

The Gaffer went on to praise the City faithful, along with the football community as a whole, for their response over the past week.

“It's been really difficult," he added. "The fans doing what they've done down at Cardiff City Stadium has been pretty amazing and the Nantes fans have been fabulous.

“The supporters have really handled it well and I think they’ve been a bit of class. I thought the Arsenal fans were good this evening too. On a night like tonight, you’ve got to say well done to how everyone has responded.”

Have to agree with that. Clearly it was not ONLY a good performance from the boys. They were set up right. We pressed high, and that is working much better for us. Just like Leicester away. We also looked for playing the ball rather than lump it up all the time. I really dont understand why Paterson stayed on the pitch all game, and why he even started. I think we would benefit with more pace and movement up front. Reid and Niasse should be given time to form a partnership, and where is Murphy? He has arguably been our best player so far. Well done :bluescarf:

Surely Murphy must be injured. Agree about Paterson....he now needs to be on the bench with Mendez or Murphy instead.
On the down side we must sign a right back and midfielder before the window shuts or we 're down.
Both Fulham, Newcastle and Southampton are seriously improving, two with new managers.
I'd prefer a change at the top but realize it's unlikely to happen.
We could well be relegated and Warnock will leave ...Not a great outcome.

I sad almost the same thing in another thread. I think the problem with both Bobby Reid and Josh Murphy is stamina because neither is used to the high fitness standards which are the Warnock brand. He insists on man for man all over the field till the last bit of extra time and everyone tackling back when required .
Nathaniel for example is built like a Brama bull and last night we saw that meant that he was still going right to the whistle. We can only go so far with this physical emphasis though, and we need to accommodate players like Reid an Murphy at this point because they're the guys who can provide that bit of extra skill and refinement to make the difference .

I agree entirely that Reid and Niasse looked like a very exciting partnership in the formative stage.

Ditto Scandinavian bluebird.that's how I saw it .very encouraging as long as we set up the same for the remaining games.

This is how we should play for the rest of the season if we played the last few games like last night we might have got more points, i have said all season attack attack you cannot win a game in your own half ands you have to get used to playing this way, but its down to the manager how we play, hopefully with neil now feeling lets just go for it and to hell with the defensive mode we might start picking up more points and also give us fans something to shout about playing in the oppositions half amd maybe get a forward player getting man of the match.
