Neil Warnock:"They should've had a penalty"

Wed Jan 30, 2019 6:58 am

Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock to Match of the Day:

NEIL WARNOCK:

"They should've had a penalty in the first half and I spoke to Bruno (Ecuele Manga) at half time so for him to dive in like that again (on Kolasinac), I'm just really disappointed. The players have to think about their responsibilities, it was just amateur."

On whether his side will buy any players in the rest of the transfer window:

"I worked on Emiliano for a couple of months and I can't see us bringing in anyone up front - we won't get anyone like Emiliano, but we could bring in one or two defenders."

Arsenal manager Unai Emery told Match of the Day:

"We are happy. In the first half we didn't deserve to go in winning and in the second half we played better, controlled the match better and created more chances.

"We started well in the first 10 minutes then I was not surprised with the performance as Cardiff worked very well.

"We struggled a lot in the match but it's very important to get the three points. We know each match is difficult and we are happy - the difference is small details."

I think there was 4 stone wall penalty shouts in the game

3 for them all by Manga
1 for us for the foul on Niasse

The referee was poor and missed a lot

I think the ref was very sympathetic to us.

Gave us a lot last night.

No arguments for the ref and indeed arsenal who I thought were quite nice to us! Yes. Penalty with niasse but that was evened up immediately after and has rightly been said. We got lucky on 2 more after that one. We could have had chances to win but for me it's falling down at poor execution from attacking players. Wrong choices last night but before now not PLAYING. Not working to create the chances we need

I don't know which match you were watching because I thought that we created a lot of chances. As it happened we didn't manage to score them, but there again we came bloody close a few times.
I thought that Bobby Reid and Niasse worked fantastically together but that's a partnership which needs to develop and will as long as we've got enough games left for that.
There's an ongoing stamina issue with Bobby, but he could have had two goals with a bit of luck and on another day would have.
Oumar Niasse isn't yet match fit either, for different reasons but also came close to scoring and was impressive.

Our problem is the defence and perhaps holding midfield, and that's not systematic but a question of individual ability. We know what the answer to that is and we've got about twenty four hours to put it right.

Yesterday we did yes. I said that.
But before we have been dreadful at anything resembling joined up attacking football.

Poor execution was meant by Patterson taking a long shot rather than play it to someone in a better position b

Nobody's mentioned the karate kick by Ozil on Patterson in the second half. A stone wall penalty for me whether it was intentional or not.
