Underwater search could begin this week
Marine scientist David Mearns said:
We have sourced and hired a survey vessel equipped with state-of-the-art search equipment which will be used to conduct an underwater search for the plane’s wreckage in the area of the last radar contact.
The survey vessel is currently being mobilised in Southampton and subject to weather conditions will be re-positioned to Guernsey on Thursday or Friday this week.
Based on current weather predictions, we are hopeful that the underwater search will begin on the weekend, most probably Sunday.
We would like to thank all the people, all the companies that have offered their help, including Guernsey police and the Harbour Master for their assistance during the family’s visit to the island.

Sala family retrace plane's last movements near Alderney
Sala’s family - including his mother Mercedes and sister Romina - are in Guernsey.
Today, they have taken a flight out to the search area west of Alderney.
After that flight earlier today, marine scientist David Mearns has now given an update to the press at Guernsey Airport.
He said:
“What they did was create as closely as possibly the route of Emiliano Sala’s plane at 5,000ft, descending to 2,200ft.
“They went over the location of the last radar contact.
“They actually recreated the type of pattern that the search and rescue aircraft would have created.
“That, essentially, has been the purpose of the family’s visit to the island, to come here and understand what they’re being told in terms of the search and rescue effort.”

Family trace search area
Emiliano Sala’s family have taken a plane with Guernsey’s Harbour Master, it’s being reported, to fly over Alderney and the area the search focused on last week.
Yesterday, marine scientist David Mearns, who spoke on behalf of the Sala family , said the family were treating this as a missing person case until satisfied otherwise.
He said:
“At some point in time in the future, we’ll be looking at more investigative, technical searches underwater, and that’s all I’ll say about that.”

Eventually searchers will be going under water.

Emiliano Sala's family still have hope and are treating the footballer's disappearance as a missing person case, a spokesperson has said.
The light aircraft on which new Cardiff City signing Sala and pilot David Ibbotson were travelling in disappeared near the Channel Islands on Monday shortly after requesting to descend.
The plane had taken off from the French city of Nantes and had been due to land in the Welsh capital later that night, with Sala due to train with his new club on Tuesday morning.
But the aircraft vanished from radar and, after days of searching by boat and air, the official search operation was stood down on Thursday afternoon.
Marine scientist David Mearns, who spoke on behalf of the Sala family on Sunday, is involved in coordinating this search.
He said the two boats enlisted on Saturday are two Guernsey fishing vessels “that have been visually scanning the area of the last radar contact for any clues to the plane’s whereabouts”.
After meeting Sala’s family in Guernsey on Sunday, Mr Mearns issued a statement to the press, where he said investigative, technical underwater searches are being considered.
He said the Sala family still have hope and are treating this as a missing person case.
He said:
“Until they’re satisfied, that’s the mode we’re in.”
“At some point in time in the future, we’ll be looking at more investigative, technical searches underwater, and that’s all I’ll say about that.”
