Queen Street Tents!

Sat Jan 26, 2019 10:51 am

How have people been allowed to put up tents in our main shopping street? Wasn't there a month or so ago? Whilst I have sympathy with the homeless, sorry they should not be allowed to make our city look like a refugee camp! Why not pitch them in Bute park across the road, if need be....?

You’ve shown just how much of an inconsiderate clown you are over this last week.

Move the poor and unfortunate out of site so you don’t have to see them is it?

How about helping them instead of moving them you clown.

There are some unfortunate decent homeless folk out in Cardiff, a guy outside queen st station always reading lovely guy but then you got the smackhead rats all perched up in queen st, it's a disgrace, saw some smackrat bint getting dressed outside tent in front of everybody earlier this morning on way to work.

It's disgusting and they need to be ripped down. The police did a talk a few months ago and I'm sure they said that only 9% of beggers they spoke to were actually homeless. Also even if they are homeless does that mean they are unable to use a bin for their rubbish instead of just throwing it anywhere and everywhere around the tent.

Most these druggie beggers have homes, you can see them get the bus home at the end of the day.

Sad thing is these professional beggers are taking away from the genuine people who need help.

Shops will start to close soon enough if something isn't done, a lot of people don't want to go to town anymore and don't feel safe.

This thread is about people living in tents in town though? not sure anyone is putting a tent up and then getting the bus home?

I've always wondered why the council dont buy a large hotel where they can house these people and have them work direct for the council whilst staying safe and warm in a room.

We have so many jobs need doing around the city I'm sure most would jump at the chance of a room and job as a starting place to getting back on there feet.

there is actually enough space to house the homeless in funded hostels. the problem is that they are not drug friendly; the stress of being on the streets leads most to drug and alcohol addiction.

it's a massive failing of our society to have these people wasting their lives on the streets. think how desperate they must be to set up a tent on a busy street before you judge them.

Without double checking I'd put a fair wager on those saying we cant just move them on, its heartless etc etc are also likely to be pro immigration and pro EU. When are people going to realise that adding people endlessly to a country that is already at breaking point with a sweeping homeless epidemic is insanity.

Sooner we get out of the EU, get control of our borders and get a grip on our own issues, the sooner we can go back to being a country that can help others. Right now we need to get our own house in order because if we run ourselves into the ground we cant help anybody.

At the moment we have people risking their lives to cross the channel in dingys for what? To live in one of the many tent cities that are growing across the UK.

The road to hell is paved with good intention and we're a long, long way down that path.

Very straightforward issue. If they're obstructing the footway or highway they should be arrested

The police in Newport have moved all people off the streets along with the council hence the influx into cardiff.

Don’t let Diane Abbott and her pink haired and pierced faced cronies hear you speaking like that mate ; they’ll all be screaming “Racist!!” and saying how the NHS has benefited from immigration over the years. :banghead:

Apparently, The Huggard Centre down towards the bay isn’t the nicest of places. It’s rife with dealers, dodgy and they’d prefer the streets to going there. They are allowed to use needles in The Huggard, they turn a blind eye to it.
Something will happen soon about the tents, can’t have the jewel in the shopping crown of wales being spoilt eh?
Unfortunately, a lot of the alleg homeless aren’t, they just beg on the streets for cash for drugs then shoot off back to their bedsits at night. In say8ng that, numbers are escalating and it’s gett8ng a lot worse.

I was told they often travel from Bristol. If you listen to half of them they certainly don't sound like they are from Cardiff.

My nieghbour reckons the Labour run council, suspended a councillor for saying the tents should be ripped down. Madness IF true.
It's a complex problem but you can't have tents in queen street. My elderly relatives no longer shop in town due to "aggressive begging
Lower business activity, less money to help people.

Correction: The suspended councillor was a Conservative, suspended by the Welsh conservatives after beratting the Labour council for allowing the tents

She may have had a go at Labour but she did say they should be ripped out (words to that effect) yhe tents just not very political correct when using social media even if they should be removed asap to prevent more people doing same

I work in town so walk through it every lunch time.... Mainly just to get steps in and it's disgusting. In a 35 minute walk I'd be approached at least 10 - 20 times.

I refuse to acknowledge them.

What a pathetic post.

As someone who uses Bute park regularly and counts it as one of their favourite places in the world I find your suggestion to dump the junkies and their tents into the park preposterous. How dare you suggest ruining that park. Not a fan of the tents in town and I have very little sympathy for these people as they are largely junkies, alkies or criminals but id rather them in town than the park.

In a lot of cases it’s not there fault, put the blame where it should be , and that’s with the people who run the Country, and the fat cats who don’t pay there Tax

I agree with you, it’s getting like “the jungle” in Calais.
