Emiliano Sala's family to pay for private search boats and divers to find missing Cardiff City footballer

Friday 25th January 2019

The news comes after it was announced the search would be stopped

The family of Emiliano Sala plan to organise a private search for him, according to reports in Argentina.

The official search for Sala, pilot David Ibbotson and the aircraft they were flying on was called off on Thursday, leaving the footballer's family distraught.

Sala, who became Cardiff City's club record signing on Saturday, had been in Nantes saying farewell to his former club teammates and was making his way back to the Welsh capital when the plane disappeared near the Channel Islands on Monday. You can read the latest live updates here.

The search got underway immediately but was called off on Thursday afternoon after Guernsey harbour master Captain David Barker said "the chances of survival at this stage are extremely remote" and no trace of the aircraft, Sala or Mr Ibbotson had been found.

More than 35,000 people have signed a petition calling for the search to resume, with Sala's French club Nantes and his former teammates joining the call.

Now, according to Argentinian media, Sala's family and his agent Meïssa N'Diaye will organise a private search for them with boats and divers.

Having spoken with Sala's friend Martin Molteni, the news website also said that Sala's mum Mercedes and three of Sala's friends are travelling to Europe on Friday.

He said: "We are doubling our efforts because we are not going to give up, just as Emiliano isn't going to give up."

Mercedes has previously said that Sala was very happy about the move. Speaking through tears, she told reporters in Argentina earlier this week that she was very shaken up.

She added: "He was very happy, he was in the best moment of his career."

In an emotional TV interview earlier this week, Sala's dad Horacio said there are no words to explain what the family are living.

He told Argentine TV station Channel 3 News: "I don't know what to think, hours go by and I can't help thinking the worst.

"I last spoke with him on Sunday and he was very happy to go to a bigger club he liked. There are no words to explain what we are living."

Sala's sister Romina was in Cardiff on Thursday to meet with Bluebirds CEO Ken Choo and manager Neil Warnock. Getting visibly upset at a press conference after the search was called off, she begged for the search to continue.

She said: "I know in my heart Emiliano is still alive somewhere in the Channel Islands.

"My message is do not stop the search. I am grateful for everything that has been done, but I beg that they don't stop with the search, please."

The Argentinian news website is also reporting that there was a march calling for the search to continue in Progreso, Sala's hometown in Argentina.

Man City striker Sergio Aguero and Gonzalo Higuain - who joined Chelsea from AC Milan on Wednesday - are among those to show their support for the search to resume.

In a video posted online, Higuain said: "Hello, I am Gonzalo Higuain.

"Can all of the people in the world please ask, either with a Tweet, a video or an Instagram message, for the search to find Emiliano Sala to be continued.

"You must never stop and you must go to the end. Thank you."

If it was a more famous footballer,or a member of the royal family there search would never have been stopped, fair enough they searched a bid area, but things can be missed if only searched once, the search should have not been stopped, simple as that

Someone needs to start a go fund me page to fundraiser to the search and rescue teams and get them going again. I would chip in a £10 and I’m sure others would :bluebird:

I also agree, is anyone in contact with Vince Alm? As he’d probably be the ideal person to set it up as he can talk to people within the club I’d assume.

Why should fans 'chip' in to fund a search when there is £18mill in transfer and agent fees doing nothing.

The money for the search should come from that fee (especially the agent who organised that plane )not the fans or his family.

Nobody has to chip in if they dont want to. But there are people like myself who live in other countries and cant pay our respects like locals can and would like to contribute in some way. Thats just one example for you

I don't mean it like that. I meant why should people have to raise money when a search could and should be unpaid for from the fee.

Well if we had to put £10 in to get another search going I would happily do it, the fans got to be the better people in this situation we can’t just sit here waiting for something to happen

The search should continue until they find them or the wreckage. Again this is all about money and no care for the family of the missing two. I mean it's not like they are searching the pacific or Atlantic, it's the channel for goodness sake. The families like most of us are clinging to that hope that they are alive. The absurd amount of money in the premiership, and not one club has come out and said we will donate xyz to keep the search party ongoing, then the rest will follow. C'mon your rich clubs including my club Arsenal, come out and show some financial support.

The club needs to act here and help the family.

The agent shouldn’t make a penny out of this deal. If it’s means donating it to the search then that’s ok by me

Gofundme is the way to do it.
But, is there an existing independent Cardiff City or Supporters club bank account available that could be used. There’ll be a lot of money in it very soon hopefully.
The family shouldn’t be paying for this.
I suspect this is a Channel islands vs Mainland issue.
RAF and Navy need to be brought back.

Is Tan going to pay out for this ? the search for him. The fee for him is not important who pay it, while he is a missing person.
