Does football matter?

Fri Jan 25, 2019 8:20 am

Anyone else kinda fallen out of love with football the last couple of days after the tragic events?

It might be just a temporary feeling but it feels like football just doesn't matter at the moment

I feel the same. This is so much bigger than football.

Not ashamed to say that I’m crushed.

No, watched Chelsea game last night, it was great. It’s not football that caused the accident, but we all interpret events differently.

I wouldn't say fallen out of love with football but it certainly feels a lot less important than it did this time last week.

I've fallen out of love with football anyway.

You can't tackle any more.

More and more players diving.

its becoming a non contact sport.

I lost total interest during the rebrand but I have started to go back to games the last few years but the feeling isn't as strong as it was before and It doesn't ruin my day so much when we lose.

Football is now just a game to me whereas before it felt more than that.

Not really, I think seeing everyone pull together makes me love it even more. :bluescarf:

Is it more important than life? No of course not, family always come first. This is tragic.

It’s not as important these past few days, only had Sky News and SSN on to catch up with latest developments in the search, was listening to Dennis Wise’s biases commentary in SSN and ended up watching a film instead

Re: Does football matter?

Have to say interest has waned a little and staying in the Premier League hasn’t become a priority for me either now.

Re: Does football matter?

to be a bit more specific than general. I couldn't give two hoots who Cardiff sign in the transfer window. Pales into insignificance now. Support the team and club whatever. :bluebird:

By Tuesday morning, ( cause I'd followed developments overnight), I felt exactly the same and decided that I wouldn't follow it anymore. I did watch a bit of Tottenham last night though, like the other poster. When you think about it everyone suffers personal tragedies during their time supporting football ,it's just that this time we've all suffered the tragedy together and associated it with football . Really it's nothing to do with football , it's just football which has connected us all to it as if we knew the guy.

yeah the exact same for me, pre-rebrand I lived football, it was everything for me, but since then it's I don't know, oh yeah football is on, I find myself enjoying the lower leagues ALOT more. but when Cardiff lose it doesn't hurt as much as it used to. when we won promotion it didn't feel as good as it should, and if we get relegated I wont even be bothered.

Spot on. I started playing Sunday league again this season - that's proper football.

As much as the beautiful game holds a sway over us and absorbs millions of us into its drama, it is...at the end of the day...just that...just a game.

There are far more important things in life...

At the minute I think not. Lost all excitement for it at the minute, but I think next home game when everyone comes together might spark love I’ve never felt before for the game

Re: Does football matter?

I feel odd about it. Like I've lost the love for the game.

Yes it does

Re: Does football matter?

Fri Jan 25, 2019 2:35 pm

For me I love it more :bluebird:

Seeing the solidarity and football fans from all over the world come together and sad times like this, this shows me how strong the football family world really is :thumbright: :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird:

I have had messages of support from all our rivals Swansea,Newport,Bristol City, Bristol Rovers and dozens of other clubs.

The corruption part in football is there big time, that I hate/detest

Yes football matters. Tragic events like this bring the best out of most fans. We've seen that time after time.

The power of football to unite in such times of grief, it even has me questing my dislike for the Jacks when I see Anis 's post. The fantastic tribute to Emelio broke my heart when I went to place a scarf yesterday. Now I have to motivate myself for the Arsenal trip.

Depends if you mean playing(fun), or following City...

I think it does. If football didn't matter then we wouldn't feel so sad and emotional right now. I'm sure this doesn't include everyone in the world but everyone atleast I've spoken to who don't follow any football aren't particularly interested in what's happened. And I don't think that's their fault, I'm sure they care to a certain extent, but well, I'm sure you know what I'm saying.

But yeah, if we focus on Emiliano. Football was his career, his sport, his hobby, his life and his death. For some people football is everything. We are all devestated about what's happened, ofcourse someone's life is more important than anything on this Earth, but Football certainly matters to alot of people.

Doesn't seem to at the moment. Certainly glad we're not facing Swansea this weekend. Just not the time for it.

Football absolutely matters, it's why we're all feeling the sand grief for a player we've never seen live. I love this club and will cheer them on til the end of the season with Emiliano at the forefront of my mind

I guess I felt a bit silly to be affected so much by these events and I wanted to know if other people felt the same.
I mean, I've seen Nantes play a few times but didnt know Sala personally of course.

It just jolted me back and I sat there thinking about football and how much it affects us.

It's hit me hard too mate, stupidly really. Just such a tragedy for one, for two, as soon as a player signs he's part of the family. I was excited about seeing him play, excited to welcome him to the club. It's horrific

Not at all if it wasn’t for the love of football and our club then we wouldn’t have had the emotions of he last week. For now absolutely football is not important, but fallen out with it? No, I love it even more having seen the support and reactions.

Went down tonight to lay a shirt, such a strange feeling and emotional despite never knowing the guy or playing for us. Many have said similar so sad.

Re: Does football matter?

I have indeed lost interested in football since Sala been missing. It has really upset people all over the world.

This is bonkers.
I've never felt so sad in my whole life about someone I've never seen or met.
And I'm no kid - I've followed the City for 45 years.
He's one of us and always will be.
God bless him.
Stay up / relegated who cares ?

I feel exactly the same. I haven't even thought about football this week and the don't care what happens the rest of the season
