Emiliano Sala's sister breaks down in tears as she reacts to news search for missing plane is called off -

Thursday 24th January 2019

Emiliano Sala's sister has reacted to news the search for the missing plane carrying her brother and pilot David Ibbotson has been called off.

The search operation entered its fourth day on Thursday morning after the plane disappeared over the English Channel on Monday evening.

In a statement issued via Guernsey Police, harbour master Captain David Barker confirmed they had taken the difficult decision to end the search after being "unable to find any trace of the aircraft, the pilot or the passenger".

Romina Sala, her cousin and a friend have travelled to South Wales, and on Wednesday night met with Bluebirds chief executive Ken Choo and manager Neil Warnock in a hotel.

They were said to be having further conversations on Thursday. You can read more about that here.

Speaking at a press conference after confirmation the search had been ended, Sala's sister Romina said all she wants is to find her brother.

Getting visibly emotional, she said: "Emiliano is a great fighter - I know he hasn't given up and he is waiting for us."

Speaking via a translator, she told BBC Wales News that her family are very grateful for the solidarity they have been shown from all over the world.

"They are somewhere and they are waiting for us," she said.

"It is exasperating not to know where a relative is.

"At this moment all I think about is that the search continues. All I want is that him and the pilot are found.

"There are two families that are destroyed and I beg them that they don't stop searching for them."

She said they have plans to go to Guernsey to encourage the search continues, adding they are grateful to the fans and everyone else who has thought of them.

"All I want is to find my brother and the pilot.

"From the moment that we knew, we are always in contact with everyone in our town and I know the task force is enormous and everyone is doing their best, please don't stop the search.

"The last time I spoke with Emiliano was on the Monday before we went to say farewell to the Nantes players and he was really excited to come over to here, to Cardiff.

"When we were in touch, all day long and sending pictures and talking over the phone, he was really excited to come.

"I find the support of the people around the world incredible. But even to try to understand the suffering of this moment, the pain is the same.

"I know in my heart Emiliano is still alive somewhere in the Channel Islands.

"At the moment, the only thing we want is the whereabouts of the two people. Questions of how Emiliano came about his fate are the matter of another moment.

"The idea is to go to the search place to try to push forward this search, not to stop. The only thing I want is to see my brother, to find my brother.

"My message is do not stop the search. I am grateful for everything that has been done, but I beg that they don't stop with the search, please."

I can't even watch without welling up seeing how devastated she is. Absolutely gutted for her family. Words just aren't enough. Hug your loved ones tight.

When this blows over, the only thing Cardiff will be judged on will be on how the club treat Emiliano's family.

This is of paramount importance and will be part of the legacy of the club beyond this season.
