The search for Emiliano Sala and pilot David Ibbotson is to be scaled back
There will be no lifeboats deployed as the search enters its fourth day
The search for new Cardiff City signing Emiliano Sala and pilot David Ibbotson has been scaled back after Guernsey's harbour master admitted the chances of survival are "almost zero".
The plane in which new Cardiff City signing Sala and Mr Ibbotson were travelling in disappeared on Monday near the Channel Islands after taking off from Nantes, destined for the Welsh capital.
The light aircraft disappeared from radar around the Channel Islands after requesting to descend. You can follow the latest updates on the rescue operation here.
Police confirmed on Thursday morning the search had been resumed, entering its fourth day.
A statement from Guernsey Police said: "We are commencing a coastal search using be Channel Islands Air Search plane of Burhou, the Casquets, Alderney, the north coast of the Cherbourg Peninsula, north coast of Jersey and then back over Sark."
Guernsey harbour master Captain David Barker told BBC Radio Guernsey that no lifeboats would be deployed today, nor would any British or French assets be requested.
"Air Search One, our search aircraft, is about to launch," said Capt Barker.
"He will do a coastal search up around a Alderney, Burhou, down the French coast, including the north coast of Jersey today and back over Sark.
"We're not launching any lifeboats today, nor are we requesting any assets from the UK or France.
"We consider that the hopes of finding someone alive have faded to almost zero now.
"But we are not giving up. We are going to conduct this sweep of the coastline and we are targeting a life raft. We will review our continued search plan as soon as that is complete."

Seems like they’re not taking the possibility of them being on Burhuo seriously

I expect this will be the last day for the search. Seems pretty conclusive. Gutting.
