The worrying training ground incident that saw Neil Warnock pull Danny Ward out of the Cardiff City team

Saturday 12th January 2019

Cardiff City boss Neil Warnock has revealed a worrying training ground incident saw Danny Ward ruled out of contention for today's clash against Huddersfield Town.

Despite suffering a head injury against Gillingham last weekend, front man Ward was initially lined up to face David Wagner's side, before an innocent clip around the head from Callum Paterson this week changed Warnock's mind.

"It sounds silly but Paterson went past him yesterday in training and clipped his head in jest and he started feeling sick, so we knew we couldn't risk him like that.

"He saw a neurologist to make sure he was alright. He could be back for next week but this was really too soon for him."

Warnock also revealed Victor Camarasa played through the pain barrier to be a part of his side in their frustrating 0-0 draw.

The Spaniard, who's been one of Cardiff's star performers since his loan move from Real Betis in the summer, was forced off with injury just after the hour, on an afternoon that saw the Bluebirds struggle to break down the bottom-of-the-table Terriers.

However, Warnock seems relaxed on the midfielder's fitness, adding that he played both Camarasa and Callum Paterson knowing that neither were fully fit.

"He [Camarasa] got a muscle injury in the last game," Warnock said. "You could see he wasn't on his game today. Same with Paterson. He tried hard but he couldn't get around like he normally does as well. It's difficult, but they've done their best so I can't really have a go at them."

"They've helped me out today. Paterson and Camarasa, they weren't fit today and they both played because we had nobody else really. I wanted Victor's creativity, but you could see that neither were fully fit.

"Although they've helped me out we've got to hope to have a body or two back next week and if they are injured we can leave them out."

Hmmm.

"We had nobody else really..."

There were two players on the bench that cost over £20m between them.

Neither even got on the pitch during the game.

Absolutely spot on. Neil takes the blame for this terrible performance. 5 mins into 2nd half mendez had to come off he was spent! 20m plus on 2 players and doesn't use them? It was crying out for both bid them. Paterson needs to stop playing up top its not working

Surely if you are short of a certain type of player you change your tactics to suit the best you have available.

He also could have not realeased our players out on loan until we had replacements. Madine could and shoumd have started today if patterson was not fit.

It's starting to look like he doesn't know what to do? Two players capable of starting game but plays an unfit player who shouldn't be playing upfront in 1st place? He then uses a player playing in div 1 ahead of those players if that is good management tan is a Welshman..... :old:

The problem is Murphy is hit and miss - can sometimes be our best player for 45 minutes and then barely features in the second half. To me, Reid has been a big disappointment - a powder puff player who is too weak for our style of play.

Christ players are soft these days hahaha can you imagine putting them through a sparring session they'd all be booked in for brain transplants and out for the rest of the season.

"because we had nobody else really" We had 30m worth of talent on the bench ffs :banghead: Bobby Reid could have played instead of Camarasa in the 10 position, hell even Murphy would have been more use up front than Paterson with his pace.

An 80% Fit Camarasa is still a better option than Reid. Unfortunately, when he has had his chance he has not performed.

Maybe it was worth giving Murphy a run up top, but again he has flattered to deceive...

Well Camarasa clearly wasnt 80% fit yesterday was he. It was more like 40% and Reid who's played well in most of the games he's played in would have been a better and fitter option with more energy than Camarasa yesterday. And Murphy would have at least troubled the opposition defence with his pace in behind unlike Paterson who worked hard but was massively ineffective. But yeah with 30m worth of talent on the bench who he's purchased lets bring on the 24 year old league 2 striker who's only reason for coming on was because his long throw was longer than Gunnarsson's.
