The market value of every Premier League squad which officially confirms Cardiff City as the biggest over-performers
Cardiff City are punching well above their weight
Transfermrkt these are the latest market value figure for the Premier League and the highest valued players in each squad.
Thursday 10th January 2019
Manchester City, who have an embarrassment of riches, have a squad worth over a billion pounds.
They have the most expensive squad value of the 20 teams, so it's no surprise they are pushing for the league title.
At the other end of the scale we have Neil Warnock's Cardiff City. Their squad value of £79m puts them in 20th place - but also demonstrates the superb job manager Neil Warnock is doing.
The Bluebirds, it is fair to say, are punching way above their weight. The squad values of the teams that came up with them are thus - Wolves £209m, who are seventh in the league, and Fulham £22m, who languish below Cardiff in 19th.
Cardiff's other relegation rivals, Southampton, Newcastle, Burnley and even Huddersfield, have a squad value well in excess of the Bluebirds' figure.
The only other side who could rival the Bluebirds, in terms of punching above their weight, are Watford. They are 8th in the Premier League table, but their £160m squad value is way below that of the other teams challenging for the top six.
Cardiff's efforts, though, eclipse even that, given their squad is only worth half of that of Watford's.
It really does underline the incredible effort of Warnock and his players in staying above the drop zone thus far, something that has been achieved through incredible endeavour and a special togetherness with their fans.
Cardiff have two pivotal games coming up, against Huddersfield and Newcastle, which they hope can cement their position outside of the bottom three.
The league is now valued at a total of £7.5billion but how much is each of the current squads actually worth? And where do Cardiff stand in those rankings?
