Newcastle United face a near impossible task being able to compete with their Premier League rivals in January based on the fact even Cardiff City are looking on course to splash the cash.
The Magpies have never spent more than the £16million they shelled out on getting Michael Owen in 2005, as reported by the Chronicle, and there’s not much confidence that they will spend big in January.
According to the Sun the Magpies are nowhere near matching the £30million asking price of Atlanta United playmaker Miguel Almiron despite him being Rafa Benitez’s top target in this window.

Given this you wouldn’t back the Magpies to break their transfer record this January despite them being clearly in the relegation battle.
Benitez’s side have 18 points after 21 games, which makes them only two points off the bottom three, and other teams below them are sure to spend big in order to improve their squad in the window.
While spending big doesn’t always work out well for a club, at least it gives them a chance of bringing in top-quality players that will make a difference.
The Magpies are drastically in need of fresh faces as there are some notable weak points in their squad and it looks awfully thin regarding depth in some positions.
Yet given their history regarding spending and the suggestion it may continue, it seems they face a near impossible task when you consider the likes of Cardiff are keen to spend big amounts and go the extra mile to get deals over the line.
According to the Sun Cardiff boss Neil Warnock has personally jetted to France for transfer talks with prolific Nantes forward Emiliano Sala in order to convince him to join.
The newspaper reveal how the French side are willing to sell the 28-year-old who has scored 13 goals in 18 appearances for £20million and there’s no suggestion that the price tag is even an issue for the Bluebirds.
Yet if the Magpies were linked to a player of that value, there would be a huge lot doubt that it would be a plausible signing for them to make.
Therefore given that relegation rivals Cardiff can go the extra mile and edge closer to sealing £20million deals which will boost their bid to survive, it shows the near impossible task facing the Magpies.
