TOMLIN SET FOR CARDIFF RETURN

Lee Tomlin is set to return to Cardiff City after they failed to reach an agreement with Peterborough over a loan deal, according to Sky sources.

Tomlin has been training with the League One club and was keen on a loan move for more game time.

The 29-year-old midfielder spent the second half of last season on loan at Nottingham Forest but Aitor Karanka chose not to sign him permanently in the summer.

Tomlin has not played a competitive game this term and was not registered in Neil Warnock’s 25-man squad for the start of the Premier League season.

Tomlin moved to Cardiff from Bristol City for £1.5m in summer 2017 on a three-year deal.

Good, it’s about time we played hardball with this overweight waste of space

This deal almost certainly fell through because of money, and Tomlin sitting on his arse picking up his huge salary rather than behaving like a professional footballer and wanting to actually play the game

If you’re right then I agree.

There is more to it than that. Tomlin has been training with Posh for a while and was desperate for the deal to go through and playing team. Reading between the lines it looks as if Cardiff wanted Posh to pay the bulk of his hefty wages rather than negotiating a deal that suits both clubs. Surely even if Cardiff only saved 5k of his wages per week that would be a bonus. Perhaps it’s Cardiff that played hard ball. It’s pure speculation. It’s certainly not the case of him not wanting to move and sit on his backside to pick up the wages. Would you expect a lower league club to pay his 25-30k a week wages? Do you expect Tomlin to be paid a fraction of his contract wages? Perhaps compromise may be the word and it’s City that didn’t want to play ball.

From Twitter around 12.45pm .... Sky Sources understand Cardiff have now agreed a loan move for Lee Tomlin with Peterborough until the end of the season.

Tomkins wages were the stumbling block.

Posh never had the money to pay anymore than 25% of his current wages.

well if there is a gulf between the amount they are prepared to pay and the amount we are prepared to subsidise them and he is so desperate, maybe he should take a dip in his wages like Emyr Huws did going out to Ipswich.

Exactly, somehow I can’t see fatty wanting to take any sort of drop in salary, not exactly known for being the ultimate professional is he!!

Reported in Peterborough press that the deal has gone through today. Good to get the wages off the books (hopefully!)

We asked Posh to pay more than 25% of Tomlins approx £30,000 a week wages, we've lost fortunes on Tomlin.

What we did do good is get rid of a bad apple in the camp. :thumbright:

I think you will find, when it comes out that posh only wanted to pay 25% of his wages but city wanted them to pay more and stood firm on it, when Posh realized that City were going to recall him, they agreed a bigger percentage of his wages. Here is the article stating that a deal has been done!

Hopefully he will turn it around and he will become saleable.

Probably what will happen is that he will leave in a 12 month when only 6 months left on his contract and continue to be a drain on the clubs finances until then.

No but I wouldn't expect the club to bend over and take whatever Peterborough are prepared to pay just to help them and Tomlin out if they want him, pay the required level of wage like Sheffield United have done for Madine !!!

I think if he lost a couple of stone in two weeks he'd be invaluable in the Premier league.

Re: TOMLIN DEAL OFF

Mon Jan 07, 2019 5:05 pm

There are number of excellent eat all you can restaurants in Peterborough which he'll enjoy. I particularly like Turtle Island in the City Centre myself where you can also get a selection of very fine rums. This is a saving grace in probably the most horrible town in England if you do have to go there. Of course, I try to have some common sense myself in the amount I eat and drink when I visit the place , but that's not going to be an issue for LT is it ?
By the way, the whole area where the restaurants and cake shops are located is now pedestrianised ,so he'd be able to travel between them in one if those motibility scooters if he gets so fat that he can't walk, and there's a cab rank so he could be driven straight from the restaurant quarter to the ground to play football .

Anyone remember that bloke -Alan Foggon I think - that we bought from Newcastle and Jimmy Scoular made him lose about three stone ? He was a bloody good player after that

think you have that the wrong way around. he played just 17 games and piled the pounds/stones on.

was decent for Boro after we sold him

Possibly. It was a while ago wasn't it. I do recall Sir Jim commenting on the matter. When you say Boro, you mean middles as opposed to Peter I expect , but whilst I'm aware of the Saxon origin of that suffix, I wonder whether it implies some affinity for fat football players ?

Hopefully sorted now and he is actually off; but Burger King on Newport Road have issued a profit warning! ;) :laughing6:

They all have promotion clauses. It’s hardly going to be 100%confirmed isit unless Tomlin joins the forum an posts his wage slip to appease you.
