Frustrated Nathaniel Clyne explains why he left Liverpool for Bournemouth instead of Cardiff City
By Jon Doel

Neil Warnock was fuming with the decision

Monday 7th Jan 2019

Liverpool defender Nathaniel Clyne has explained why he joined Bournemouth on loan instead of Cardiff City.

Clyne's decision left Bluebirds manager Neil Warnock furious last week after he found out about it on TV. He accused the Anfield club of lacking class and also expressed his disappointment in Clyne personally after believing he had a deal for the player lined up.

But Clyne says it was Bournemouth's style of play and his admiration for Cherries boss Eddie Howe that convinced him to head to the south coast rather than Wales.

"They have a great manager and that’s what urged me to come here," said Clyne after he made his debut in the defeat by Brighton.

"I have looked a lot at how Bournemouth play and it is similar to my style.

"I got the call and my agent said: ‘Get packed, you’re ready to go.’ It was a nice five-hour drive down here. I have gone a whole season and a half without really playing consistent football, which is unusual for me. Knowing you are fit and you can go out there and play, but constantly not getting selected for the team is a bit disappointing. I would rather go out and find another club which would give me the opportunities to play games."

Warnock had said: "I was disappointed with Nathaniel Clyne. Having known the player and given him his debut, I'm disappointed not just with the boy himself but with Liverpool as well for not ringing me.

"To see it on television when I've done everything right and they've promised that he's my player this week, it's a disgrace for me, it's a lack of class isn't it?"

The Bluebirds have now turned their attention to Chelsea star Victor Moses.

No apology, no reference to letting his former mentor down...

It's his choice when push comes to shove but a complete lack of class and/or respect from Clyne and a warm welcome assured at the CCS in less than 4 weeks time! ;)

I have no issue with him to be honest, you cant blame him if its Liverpool who promised him. He was always going to go with the best option.

What’s that? The style of play that makes you lose 3-1 to a reserves Brighton team.

id be pretty ticked off if we were spending 19 mill on a Liverpool player and they were then turning us down for a loanee in preference to letting him go to another club..
I do think Warnock deserved a couple of phone calls though.

Fek him. Let's hope his career continues on a downward spiral.

Have to agree with this.
I answered a couple of very naive posts recently from the usual suspects blaming Warnock for being too slow, etc, etc, and I said that Bournemouth’s style of play would probably win over our more industrial tactics.
Couple that to the young up and coming manager in Howe and I can’t really blame him. Good luck to him.

This transfer proves to those that think - ‘oh he’s available, why don’t we get him’ mentality (and then blame Warnock, Choo, Tan, the club for everything under the sun) that it’s not like shopping on Amazon.
Just a touch more to it than that!

players are not real people mate, they are computer generated. they do not have thoughts, feelings, ambitions, family, agents or opinions. and their values are set in stone by some 17 year old whiz kid geek who has never watched an actual football match in his life.. you quite simply click a few buttons and hey presto you have Messi and Ronaldo.

Same thing happened with dave Brooks after neils connections with sheffield he thought he had it in the bag but he chose the young manager at bournmourh and we later went for murphy.

You can cut it anyway you like but what it comes down to is Clyne did not want to play under a Dinosaur manager playing yesterday's style of football, can't blame him

I agree.

The most disappointing thing about all this is how Warnock behaved in public, should have told Liverpool he wasn’t happy privately.

So what was Warnock expected to say when asked about his feelings by the media, shrug his shoulders and just say... "Some you win, some you lose"?

First of all your not seriously comparing City to Brazil and secondly I don't recall Brazil playing hoof ball in that particular tournament,or having long throwings into their opponents penalty area hoping that something might come of it,to sum up,Warnock is an excellent Championship manager but is completely out of his depth in the Premiership and the sooner you and all the other Warnock's groupies understand that the better

Doesn't want a relegation battle. Wants to play for nothing. Mid table football is less stress.

Just don't beat around the bush

He can just say that we’re now pursuing other targets.

Seems simple enough to me.

Both Clyne and Solanki are good enough players but both injury prone...Solanki out till Feb...last thing we need is another player out injured.
Don’t blame Clyne , but nothing hard about a phone call from Liverpool me thinks

How many people on here have accepted a job offer and inbetween accepting and starting have changed there mind or been offered something better but not notified the other party ?

I expect probably most at aome point

I dont blame the guy, money is money and if i was offered a easier life for the same job and money i would take it aswell. Its our fault for not getting it sealed in writing

ultimately signing a player is like buying a house. nothing's certain til they've signed on the dotted line.

from a football point of view clearly bournemouth are ahead of us right now. clyne's agent has not acted professionally, but there's no use crying over spilt milk - he would have been a good signing but warnock needs to move on to other targets.
