Neil Warnock worked with him at Crystal Palace but the Bluebirds could face Premier League competition for him

Unwanted Chelsea star Victor Moses has emerged as a target for Cardiff City ahead of a potential January loan swoop.

The Bluebirds are understood to be keen on taking Moses as an alternative to Liverpool's Nathaniel Clyne on a temporary deal until the end of the season, using up their final allocation of Premier League loans.

But they may face competition from Moses' former club Crystal Palace who are reportedly keen on a permanent deal at around £12million, though Chelsea value him slightly higher.

The Sun have reported in recent weeks that both Palace and Fulham both want to sign the 28-year-old outright.

Cardiff already have Bournemouth's Harry Arter until the end of the season and under top-flight rules are allowed only one more loan.

And despite the fact Neil Warnock wants a striker as his top January target, the search to fill that position is proving difficult with the veteran boss admitting it might have to wait until the end of the season.

That could open a space for Moses — who worked under Warnock for three years at Palace — to reunite on loan with the Yorkshireman, who still rates him highly.

Moses can play at right-back or further up the pitch on either wing, as well as wing-back in a 3-5-2 formation which Warnock wants to use more often with the Bluebirds.

He played a key role in Chelsea's Premier League title win under Antonio Conte in 2016/17 but has been marginalised under new boss Maurizio Sarri.

The Nigeria international has featured in just 36 minutes of league action this term, otherwise making do with Europa League and Carabao Cup game-time.

Would be good to cement him as a RB for us but we'll see. I'm guessing he'll want to cash in with a signing on fee.

Non starter wages to high for Cardiff

Whenever the words "but they face competition from other Premier League clubs" you can more or less rule out the possibility of the player coming here.

The fact is that we just can't compete with any other Premier League club as far as transfers are concerned.

Why would Chelsea loan him to us when they can get a fee for him?

The fact that he's played for Warnock before means absolutely nothing as proven by the Clyne debacle.

Non starter. Don’t know where these stories come from but I can’t see the club signing any of these experienced PL players Moses, Cahill etc as their wages exceed Cardiff’s budget. There are other clubs out there that will pay the money. Even Abraham is reportedly being offered 120K per week by Wolves.

These are the types of signings I expect if we are able to
stay up. Not for the current moment in time unfortunately

We won't sign a single player this transfer window, all our reported targets seem a bit random, strikers from all over Europe nobodys heard of, and cannot afford premier castoffs. Hope I'm proved wrong.

Unless this is bullshit we really need to keep a lid on our transfer activity as most of the players we were reportedly after have gone to other clubs.

You're not far off the mark there.

I have little doubt that Moses will go {if he goes} to a higher placed club than City.

Correct me if im wrong but would we not be paying half his wages whilst Chelsea pay the other? Pretty sure we’ve done the same with some previous loans.

Why would Chelsea pay half his wages when they could sell him and have his wages off the books completely?

I would imagine that if he were to come to us it would only be on the basis that we pay the whole of his wages and possibly even some sort of loan fee as well.

For those reasons alone I have to agree with those who are saying that this would appear to be a non-starter.

Trouble with Moses people want him, so Chelsea will just hang on as late as possible to get the most for him. Love him to come here but cant see it, he will be sold.

WORCESTER CCFC
well if as you stated that neil has said cardiff fans will have to wait till the end of the season before we see a striker and other statments saying why would we buy a striker for just 4 months the writing seems to be on the wall from the powers that be if this is the case and knowing full well we have no intension of paying for a proven striker but we will wait till zohore declares himself fit its not keeping fans in the loop or together i suppose we will have to wait till 31st january

I don't think it is true that we cannot complete with every other club in the premier I would so that we are as or slightly more attractive than Huddersield and Birnley unless the player in question in northern and wants to live up north. Not much chance against anyone else I agree.

The Bluebirds are expected to face competition for the former Liverpool and Stoke City loanee, who is understood to be valued by Chelsea at a minimum of £12 million.

The Sun (23 December, page 61) reported that Crystal Palace want to bring Moses back to Selhurst Park while Fulham thought his £130,000 a week wages could cause problems.

Warnock wants to add a right-wing back to his squad and Nigeria captain Moses, who thrived in that role as Chelsea won the Premier League in 2016/17, would fit the bill.

Interestingly, the 70-year-old tactician worked with Moses during his formative years at Crystal Palace, too, before he moved to Wigan Athletic in 2010.

If you mean the Royal "we" by the club, I don't see them giving much away at all; that is mainly down to us who are out of the inner circle and scrapping for tit bits!

It's always going to be that the media/supporters 'speculate' but the reality will come when the club itself have something to say; and I have to say that despite being entertained by said 'speculation', I actually like the element of surprise :thumbright:
