A forum for all things Cardiff City

From Fulham in January 2017 with a dire performance to just about scraping through Portsmouth in the League Cup to then losing to Burton in the next round and actually attempting to win v Mansfield for the one reason that we had a luxury tie at the end of it you take the opponent away from that I am pretty sure Mansfield would have knocked us out to that shambles v Norwich and now to Gillingham..
I find it sad we now live in the world of being a supporter that we can sit and say let's throw a cup tie away in order to prioritise league position.. I don't see why we look at these cup competitions as meaningless just because we have raised our expectations and gone higher through the leagues because you flip the coin and we are in league one/league two these are the competitions that we all look forward too.. where does the problem lie in cup competitions where we have this mentality of 'One less thing to focus on' or 'League is the priority' surely these players and managers are paid enough to deal with cup competitions? Why have cup competitions if clubs higher up the spectrum prioritise the league over it and give it any respect?
I am not going to bother commenting on Warnock coming out with this Clyne nonsense because if you are actually caught up in it and even talking about it because that's what Warnock wants hes avoiding the performance and being knocked out and made these audacious claims and embarrassing comments about Liverpool to attract the media and football world to avoid the fact we got knocked out v Gillingham a League One side.. Warnock is basically doing a Mourinho doing something or making very strong opinions so he can deflect the result and performance.
I for one love the cup and the joy it's brought over the years for us and no matter who we get I still like us to give 110% and give it a go.. if we go out with a performance and actual desire to go and win a game with no-one shirking tackles like Reid and others done v Norwich.
I think Warnock and the players deserve blame but Warnock seems to send the team out in cup competitions with 90% motivation and a lot of players seem to go into tackles half hearted in a way Warnock is saying don't go full blooded into tackles just in case you injure yourself so we have a weaker squad going back into the Prem games.
Warnock for how old school he is and I still back him and will always appreciate what he has done has embarrassed this club in cup competitions since he came here.
People can come back if we get a decent result v Huddersfield next week and say 'Where's the Warnock haters now' and all that but you can't change what happened yesterday.

Last night was nothing short of embarrassing and pathetic last night, reminded be of Burton Albion, Mansfield and Portsmouth last night.
Warnock I have a lot of time for and he has work wonders but this is the real bad side of him showing, cup competitions is what I first remember of football and was told by my brother and dad that cup competitions are really special things to any club.
I am not expecting a full strength team like we since in the past 3 games but I wanna see a team picked that looks like it could work together and complement each other on ability, what even was the formation last night? The first half was made up and had no structure and I don't think Peltier or Jazz knew who was playing wing back because there was times where one was pushing on and one stayed back.
Bobby Reid was all over the place making runs off Madine's headers but did he even win one? He got bullied and Norwich tired him out by knocking the ball back and fourth with the keeper because they knew fans would get on his back if he didn't press so I take my hat off to them that's something they would have worked on and know our fans would get annoyed if he didn't press so that was Madine gone for the game really.
Some of the players were playing at 10mph, shrugging 50/50 tackles because they was worried about being injured for games like Arsenal.. Warnock a man of his experience and his old fashioned approach should know better that we want 100% from players no matter what game, we can already see some of the 'Concentrate on the league' brigade which is a load of boll*ck. FA Cup and League Cup are competitive games not friendly games. If you say things like we can concentrate on the league then is there any reason of having cup competitions if we have this approach?
Danny Ward was the only one who had any threat, I think the right back area is nothing short of lower championship standard, I think Peltier has really been a great servant for us and us give 110% but I feel like this position could cost us this season, v Newcastle I seen Bennett overlapping at any attempt when Murphy was driving forward where I don't think we will see much of that from Jazz and Peltier, they remind of me Andrew Taylor defensively sound but look like they got skids running down their legs running past the half way line, more threat in a baby than them pair going forward.
Best part of the night was winning a corner in the second half and everyone geared up with excitement and we had no-one taking the corner. When I leave like games like last night I wanna walk away if we lose thinking we put up a fight but they just had the better of us on the night but we gifted them goals last night and was playing at 75% not 100%.
People can say I am being OTT but I am saying the harsh truth and not shying away from last night, Warnock has done this in previous cup games with us, picking a team from a hat with no real formation or structure not giving it 100%. I think he needs to realise people make an effort to come down last night even if it's not a full house and expect 100%.
I remember a phrase of him saying he signs players that will die for him, I didn't see that last night and he played a Mourinho card last night using something irrelevant to deflect the performance last night with the NML news which we already knew more or less.
Posted this back when we lost v Norwich, think this applies near enough all the same again.

Just enjoy our victories over Huddersfield and Newcastle instead.

Take the cup more serious and actually put in effort and if we get defeated stop deflecting the blame on something that has no relevance on the game e.g. Clyne.

I thought it was a strong side bar the usual 3 in the middle. Bigger fish to fry. I understand your frustration though.

Not having a go but us fans don’t seem bothered either given out attendances in these games , man city aside our attendances both home and away have been crap in recent years
Take yesterday’s away attandances as an example
We were miles behind a lot of them and we are a current prem team
