UPDATE NEIL WARNOCK:

Everything Neil Warnock said on Cardiff City transfers, Adrien Tameze, Nathaniel Clyne and injuries after Gillingham shock

Cardiff City's difficult start to 2019 was exacerbated as Gillingham produced an FA Cup upset to stun the Bluebirds 1-0.

The January transfer window , injuries to Kadeem Harris and Danny Ward, plus the game itself were all discussed by a less-than-impressed Neil Warnock after the game.

A disappointing day for you, Neil?

Neil Warnock:

"Absolutely. I know we made a lot of changes but I thought we played well, I thought the attitude was good today, I've no complaints about the attitude.

"I think you need a bit of luck in the cup, but I don't think we'd have scored if we'd been playing until now. We had so many chances but it seemed like nobody wanted to score - whether they thought we should be out of the cup and concentrate on the league, I don't know!

"I've never seen so many chances, delayed shots and things like that. And then you need a bit of luck. To me, the push is so blatant on Mendez-Laing. Two hands blatantly on his back, there was a handball after that when the kid's pushed his hand towards the ball.

"And for their goal, Morrison's got an elbow in the throat which any other time would have been a free kick.

"We haven't had the rub of the green but good luck to them (Gillingham), I hope they get a good draw in the next round. The FA Cup is about taking your opportunities."

You had so many opportunities...

Neil Warnock:

"Well let's hope we're saving them for the league games. Somebody told me this week that we've only been ahead for 94 minutes this season. Can you imagine what it's like to be the manager of a club that's only been ahead for that long, with the amount of games we've had!

"It's a bloody nightmare to be in charge and we don't get any respite, we've got to put up with it and get on with it. I've never seen so many straightforward chances missed - I don't know why they hesitated time after time - but that's football sometimes."

Re: UPDATE NEIL WARNOCK:

And you picked up some injuries today?

Neil Warnock:

"Well you've got to play 11 v 11. I only left four in from the other day, luckily those four are ok. I didn't really want to play Morrison if I'm honest but you saw their team, if we hadn't had played Morrison we'd have got bullied out of it altogether.

"Kadeem is having an x-ray and Danny is having a scan on his cheekbone I think it is. He was headbutted in his cheekbone as he's gone to flick it on, which is just typical bad luck for him, just coming back today.

"We're hoping Kadeem is alright. it's just his shoulder. It was pointless leaving him on and they've decided just to take him to the hospital."

With the transfer window well under way, are you closer to securing any new recruits?

Neil Warnock:

"Not really. We've almost agreed terms for one particularly player, but I was disappointed with Nathaniel Clyne.

"Having known the player and given him his debut, I'm disappointed not just with the boy himself but with Liverpool as well for not ringing me.

"To see it on television when I've done everything right and they've promised that he's my player this week, it's a disgrace for me, it's a lack of class isn't it?

"But listen, we're not going to get any favours, whether it's on the pitch or off it and we're always up against it and that's when we're good. The fans next week, I'm sure they'll turn out in force and let's give a good run until the end of the season.

Re: UPDATE NEIL WARNOCK:

So Liverpool had told you he'd come to Cardiff?

Neil Warnock:

"Correct. And Nathaniel did. So it's disappointing isn't it?

"I probably should have been illegally tapping him him, but I've done everything right and then Bournemouth come in and I suppose Bournemouth paying £19million for (Dominic) Solanke probably whetted their appetite a bit."

Re: UPDATE NEIL WARNOCK:

Any update on Adrien Tameze?

Neil Warnock:

"There's numerous players we've been linked with. The chairman Mehmet (Dalman) and Ken Choo are talking to loads of players as far as I'm aware and we've got to second and third choices to see who's available.

"But we're not going to bring people in that aren't better than what we've got. We've got to look at this season and think 'if we lose two or three in the summer, we've got to bring in players that will benefit us, of the right age.'"

Re: UPDATE NEIL WARNOCK:

Gary Madine is off to Sheffield United?

Neil Warnock:

"Yeah, it came quickly that. I just thought the run he's had with us, he needs to go away with a clean sheet and get some goals scored.

"I think they create chances and I said to him 'go and get my old club promoted' and enjoy himself a bit. He's just felt such a heavy load on his head at times, but sometimes it's good to wipe the slate clean and financially it's very good for us as well Everything is fully paid up."

Does Madine's exit and the Gillingham performance further highlight the need for a striker?

Neil Warnock:

"Yeah I mean we know that. It's getting strikers in January. You look at some of the players we're looking at and the figures are astronomical.

"It's going to be one of those jobs late in the window again when somebody decides to let someone go. Look at the Premier League, Abraham for £18million. It's alright me saying 'we've got to keep calm', but it is disappointing at times."

With Clyne not coming, could you get a Premier League striker on loan?

Neil Warnock: Yeah, we're looking at options like that.

"That opens the door for that but it's not easy.

"I think a lot of teams want the strikers they've got to go permanent now and if they're not the right one for us, do we spend money on a permanent striker for the sake of four months?

"It's a difficult one, we haven't got the answer yet. Time will tell over the next three or four weeks. Nothing concrete.

"We're close to one player and we'll have to see about the other two.

"The reason I'm disappointed with Nathaniel and Liverpool is that I've out on three players because of that, by waiting.

"I lost out on a couple of full backs and a striker - because I couldn't use the loan up - so I'm doubly disappointed."

That's interesting...but we sadly won't get to find out who we lost! :(

It is Chris, and Clyne is going to have some shit on Feb 2nd against us I'm sure. Shame I'm not there for it.

Lee, it will be interesting :laughing6:

I don't mind Liverpool (or Klopp for that matter) as a club but I really don't like their supporters; a view formed when we played them at Wembley a few short years ago

Scally's is an apt word for most of them!

What some of them did to get tickets for that game (many in our end) was a disgrace and I'm expecting similar when they come to Cardiff later in the season; more so even than ManUre and their locally-based support :(

Scousers; always the victims and never to blame! :x

Needs to bore off with this mentality in transfer window and needs to be strong and firm and back himself with the board but seems to admit defeat way before the window has started or even ended for that matter.

Tammy Abraham maybe? He said he wanted him and was saving his loan for Clyne. Maybe he’s referring to him as the striker means he’s off on loan to Wolves.

Maybe, Norms. He was certainly one whose name came up! :thumbright:

He's off on a transfer to Wolves so doubt it was him.
