Neil Warnock accuses Liverpool of 'lacking class' over failed Nathaniel Clyne loan to Cardiff City
Saturday 5th Jan 2019
Neil Warnock accused Liverpool of lacking class over Cardiff City's loan pursuit of Nathaniel Clyne, launching an attack on both the club and the player in the wake of the Bluebirds' FA Cup defeat by Gillingham.
Cardiff believed they had sealed a deal for right-back Clyne on loan until the end of the season, but were gazumped by Bournemouth, who confirmed they had signed the player on Friday.
It came as a blow for the Bluebirds, who had viewed the former Crystal Palace and Southampton star (who was given his professional debut by Warnock) as a key target.
Warnock said the situation had knocked his transfer plans, but confirmed the Bluebirds were close to securing their first January addition.
Asked about Cardiff's hunt for new recruits after the 1-0 upset at Gillingham, he said: "We've almost agreed terms for one particularly player, but I was disappointed with Nathaniel Clyne.
"Having known the player and given him his debut, I'm disappointed not just with the boy himself but with Liverpool as well for not ringing me.
"To see it on television when I've done everything right and they've promised that he's my player this week, it's a disgrace for me, it's a lack of class isn't it?
"But listen, we're not going to get any favours, whether it's on the pitch or off it and we're always up against it and that's when we're good.
"I probably should have been illegally tapping him him, but I've done everything right and then Bournemouth come in and I suppose Bournemouth paying £19million for (Dominic) Solanke probably whetted their appetite a little bit."
Warnock may now use his one remaining Premier League loan on the striker that the Bluebirds need.
"It opens the door for that. We're looking at all sorts of options," he said on the failure to land Clyne.
"I think a lot of teams want the strikers they've got to go permanently and if they're not the right one for us, do we spend money on a permanent striker for the sake of four months?
"We haven't got the answer yet. We're close to one player and then we'll see.
"The reason I'm disappointed with Nathaniel and Liverpool is that I've out on three players because of that by waiting.
"I lost out on a couple of full backs and it’s put us in reverse now.”

Its not the first time this has happened , its a bit worrying and we should not be giving up on other targets until paperwork is signed and sealed. It not very proffesional

naming and shaming clubs for talking to their players, and slagging the players for not signing for us is embarrassing. Stop it now

Sounds like the excuses are out already? Suppose come 31st be saying we tried but couldn't get deal over the line, yet we could have signed the players required but chose to put eggs in one basket for not the 1st time basket stayed empty...

Same thing beginning of season with pool yet he went ahead done same thing with same club why?

Problem is, Clyne knows how Warnock plays, hence why he legged it to Bournemouth.

too much spin going on perhaps, It's hard to believe these statements are made without an agenda. An agenda to continue to be tight arses

What does he mean when he says "Do we pay for a permanent striker for the sake of four months?"
Surely the idea is to buy a striker who will help keep us in the Premier League beyond the next four months? Or is he suggesting that we shouldn't be buying a striker now because in the club's opinion we are going to be in the Championship next season?
We know we're underdogs and the world's against us every time we play but we need to try to get some quality into the club as soon as possible if we are going to have any chance of surviving in the division.

No more players from liverpool then

Desperation setting in Neil, a manager half your age is so much more streetwise.

He did the same with Chelsea and Abraham last summer, and then criticised Chelsea in the press.
First time I’ve said anything about Warnock’s window so far, but I think he needs to be less trusting. The game has changed a lot.
Good news that we’re close to agreeing terms with one player.

I’ll get strung up but is Neil the right man? Right now?

Dead right again - the realists are finally winning the argument I think.
It's ok to say its only 5th January and we've got until the 31st but the pool of possible recruits is getting smaller every day as they are being snapped up by other teams who have serious intent and ambition
IMHO we simply cannot have serious transfer/team building intent and my opinion is evidenced by the failure of a very rich owner to spend relatively small amounts of the cash earned via promotion to strengthen the team and by an experienced manager like NW putting all his eggs in one basket by waiting on ultimately failed transfers and allowing himself to miss out on other targets because of it!!
Does anyone else thinks this is a story we've all heard before and the usual excuses for not strengthening are wearing a bit thin this time around?

Depends who the payer is buddy?

He deserves this season after what he has done, I do find it incredible no one has criticised the 10 million wasted on Reid though.
1 good season in the championship.

Deflection tactics from today’s result ? Having been done over in summer window with Grujic (and Abraham ) you think we would have got pen to paper on 1st January ?

Doesn’t sound encouraging, does it. As they say, a dog is for life not just for Christmas.

Or is he more Wiley than he let's on. We have a club that doesn't want to spend with a restless fan-base to appease. A chief spokesman blaming a volatile market for the lack of activity.
Checklist.
1) Blame Clubs
2) Agents
3) Players
4) Location
5) Weather
6) Markets inflated
7)We tried our best

Anyone would think we lost to a league one team today.....
Standard manager deflection stuff.
Its a professional big money sport, no one gives favours at this level. Liverpool double their money on an investment and they are spending big so need to recoup. we are about even money to go down, Bournemouth are 100/1, for the player who would you go to ? The team that's trying to do it on the cheap or one that pays the going rate if we do stay up ?
A non story for me. We are not paying over the odds as you need to do early in this window. This will be at the end of the window when a team wants a player out the squad. We may get lucky or we may not

f**k the stereo pinching, curly permed headed, brookside watching wankers!!!!

It's really difficult to formulate any type of persuasive argument against anything you've said in this post.
I think you're absolutely spot on.

I think NW has just let us ALL know the true levels of ambition that exist at our club - "Do we spend money on a striker for the sake of 4 months" REALLY.
That statement on the day our team has failed to score against a League 1 club struggling to keep out of the relegation zone have already conceded 43 goals this season.
In my opinion failure to sign a striker, and yes paying for one, will show the true ambition of Cardiff City Football Club and the lack of desire to do the upmost to avoid relegation this season.
We've been told over and over this season we, as fans, need to enjoy the PL because none of us believed we would be here, but today we were against a poor League 1 team and failed miserably, are we to enjoy that because none of us think we should be beating that lot.
This defeat has nothing to do with Liverpool it's about the failings of Cardiff City FC, it's manager and players.

Obviously the result today is putting people against Warnock in every scenario.
IF what he says is true then good on him for speaking out. You obviously cannot trust anyone's word in the world today and it's a sadder place for it.
This sort of outspoken rant by Warnock was being applauded all last season and the first half of this. Seems the pitchforks are out early.

Yes he speaks out like against Chelsea like pool earlier it it's same message missed out on players waiting for decision? No lessons learned from a veteran manager that's very poor to say the least...

Warnock using this media story to cover the game up, as much as he done for the club he has too many flaws and personally myself can see right through him, like the whole we ain't got much money to spend.. sympathy card to keep the fans on his side.
Sat Jan 05, 2019 11:43 pm
Show some class Warnock we don't want the laundry aired in the media
Sun Jan 06, 2019 12:05 am
I know Warnock is old school and signed his contract at Cardiff on a handshake. Note to Warnock times have changed! You're in the richest league in the world, with big money Owners! All that matters to them is money & image. If they can make more money from the deal they will!! What would Tan do in the same position?!? Surely he knows, no player is signed until they've raised the scarf.
I think most people are right this is a deflection from our 1st team getting turned over by a struggling lower league team.
For me though he's using a big negative of the clubs lack of ambition. I'm more concerned regarding this than an FA cup loss. We'll
still be in the FA Cup next season but this might be our only crack at the prem.
What was stopping us offering the same combined deal?
The other strikers being mentioned are no more guarantees and at least the kid has youth on his side and future sell on potential.
Most frustrating of all the club has allowed its self to be messed around because we're so desperate. How many more times is this going to happen? Grabban, grujic, now Clyne! If the transfer doesn't go through on Jan 1st move on!! From Warnocks press conferences all season to this it's deflating and just lacks any ambition to want to stay at this level. Every man and his dog knows we need players!! We've had Patterson up Top for half the season!! These deals should have been wrapped up in December if we were serious players, with 2 or 3 signings announced on the 1st of Jan!! Show the rest of the league we mean business as well!
We got lucky with Camarassa on the last second of the last window.... might not happen again!

Prom is he knows Cardiff pay the lowest wages in the Premier league, this will be the pattern.
Sun Jan 06, 2019 12:12 am
Problem is he knows Cardiff pay the lowest wages in the Premier league, this will be the pattern just like what happened in the summer when he failed to sign a striker.
