The high-end restaurant Pier 64 in Penarth has closed as the company prepares to go into liquidation.

The restaurant in Penarth Marina describes itself as a wine bar and steakhouse and is owned by former Wales footballer Craig Bellamy.

A letter is understood to have been sent out to Pier 64 staff informing them that the company is to go into liquidation.

Pier 64 overlooks the water of Penarth Marina and was owned by Francis Dupuy when it opened in 2011.

Mr Bellamy became director of Pier 64 Limited when it was registered with Companies House in December 2014 and is currently listed as its sole director.

On Thursday, Mr Bellamy temporarily stood down as Cardiff City Academy boss following allegations he bullied a former player.

Mr Bellamy has said he "categorically refutes" these claims and has insisted he will clear his name. He said he had removed himself from his role at Cardiff City Academy so he can "co-operate fully" with a club inquiry into the allegations.

WalesOnline tired to contact Mr Bellamy for comment regarding Pier 64 but was unsuccessful.
