Gary Madine has made five substitute appearances for Cardiff in the Premier League this season
Cardiff City striker Gary Madine is set to join Championship side Sheffield United on loan.

Former Sheffield Wednesday forward Madine joined Cardiff from Bolton in a deal worth about £6m in January 2018.

The 28-year-old has struggled to make a mark with the Bluebirds and has only started one Carabao Cup game for the Premier League club this season.

The deal is expected to be until the end of the season, with a view to a permanent transfer in the summer.

Madine has made 19 appearances for Cardiff in total but has yet to score for them.

He played 113 games for Wednesday between 2010 and 2015 and would join a Blades side which is third in the Championship table.

If promoted they are obliged to sign permanently for X amount. We may get most of our losses back if we agree a decent deal

No way they will agree that. They will have seen how good he is in the premier league for us. To be honest I think they have just signed him as a back up if they get a bad injury crisis,we are lucky to get him off the wage bill for the rest of the season greedy to hope for more. Just a chance if he did get a few goals for them and they weren't promoted they might buy him for the championship next season and pay his true value perhaps £500,000.

he hasn't been a fair crack of the whip, but he couldn't realistically expect that given that we were in a promotion run.

the championship is where he belongs at the moment. he can score goals at that level. i hope he bangs them in at sheffield. not sure about why we've given an option to sign him - he could be back in the picture if we go down.

OK Tony, I take your point in that respect, however I still feel that those players are still human beings in that respect, as fans we build them up and praise their skills and commitment and then we knock them down without a further thought.

Neil Warnock has now confirmed in his post match reaction that Madine is off to Sheff United. The way Neil was speaking it seemed as though it is a loan but I know there is some reports out there its permanent, so we will have to wait and see on that I suppose.
