The Anderlecht striker has emerged as a new attacking target

Cardiff City have made a bid for Anderlecht striker Ivan Santini, according to reports.

The Daily Mail report that the Bluebirds have made a bid of five million euros for the Croatian forward, who has scored 11 goals for the Belgian outfit since joining in the summer.

The 29-year-old striker could be an option for Cardiff if a move for Nantes forward Emiliano Sala doesn't come off - with reports in France yesterday suggesting the Argentina isn't keen on a move to South Wales.



With Nantes looking for a fee of somewhere in the region of £20 million and Sala seemingly not thrilled at the prospect of joining Cardiff, Santini could prove a worthwhile alternative.

The 6ft 2in frontman was named in Croatia's preliminary World Cup squad, but didn't make the final 23.

Despite scoring 11 goals in his short time at Anderlecht, Santini hasn't always been in favour at the club - which could make them susceptible to letting him leave this month.

One Belgian sports journalist described Santini yesterday as "not good enough" for Anderlecht, adding he "works hard and has scored... but he does not take you to a higher level."

Looks like we are casting offers everywhere, at this rate we will have a new 25 squad.
Does look more in our price range and the type of player NW likes, 6'2.

Only need to look at the names mentioned on this page to see that we will have a lot more than a new 25 man squad. Just like the last few transfer windows, the other 91 teams are going to struggle for players, most of them will be at Cardiff. Go get em all Neil.

sure we were in for him in summer, scoring record looks decent this season and previous seasons in france / Belgium 1 goal every 2 game, could be a good buy as long as cheap but anything over 5 mill is a risk

I hope that this is not true. We are desperate for a striker but it’s pointless bringing someone in who is no better. The Belgian League is not the strongest league in the world and if Anderlecht are trying to offload him there must be a reason. Alarm bells should be ringing.

Maybe the manager doesnt gave plans for him, maybe he wants to move there could be a million reasons, just because its not the prem,la liga or bundesliga doesnt mean their league doesnt have good players

Some players look better if they put the effort in and show the passion.

Much less of a risk than sala at 4 million. He did score 15 goals in the French league last season for Caen so he does find the back of the net.

Let's face it Zohore and Ward are semi permanent sick notes this season and if Patterson got injured given that Reid is ineffective on his own up front we would be left without a striker playing in the premier league.

Some top players have come from the Belgian leagues, and worse ones at that.

Happy New Year to you as well. Is it really necessary to say “Ffs” when someone doesn’t agree with you? People do have different opinions. Based on scoring record, reports from Belgium, etc I don’t think he would be a good signing. He is described as “not playing good football” and the goals that he scored at the start of the season were “easy goals”. He has scored 4 goals in the last 4 months and that’s why he has been dropped. Either way I think that we need to look higher for our goals & please grow up if someone doesn’t have the same opinion about a player as you.
