Warnock got it badly wrong v. Spurs today with a strange team selection. Having said that Murph and Reid aren't physical enough for this level what does do? Pick them both!
No way is Paterson a right winger and Reid is totally ineffective in that role. He needs to feed off a big striker.
Cunningham is not as good as Bennett and this when shown in the first half especially, when he was very poor.
We need to play on the break against the better teams like Wolves do and for this we need the pace of players like Murphy and Hoilett.

I think the idea of Pato playing “right wing” was to outjump Rose and flick the ball onto Reid. Unfortunately after 2 minutes and then the next 20 minutes, that plan went out of the window. Once the team and tactics are picked we don’t have the subs or players to change it. By then to be honest we were out of it. We weren’t going to score 3 whichever formation we used.

Disagree,Warnock would have more success rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. We were totally outclassed today and schooled all over.We move on.The only thing today demonstrated was the need for investment to secure a long term tenure in this division.

The team was named an hour before kick off
If you had said all the above before kick off rather than after the game had finished it would of had some credence

Was Pats carrying an injury , his thigh was heavily strapped
Perhaps that also was a reason not to play him up top.
Warnocks reluctance to give Madine a game must be an indication of his quality.
To be fair he has not been given a run.
We seem to be continually told that he has just started training as an excuse not to play him.

Pre-match all I saw was people chuffed about the starting XI. Hindsight is beautiful.

Just a mad 10 minutes that killed us and Camarasa and Murphy looked tired - exposing Cunningham with 3-on-1 situations (which fans have blamed HIM for

) and they came off in the end early. Doom and gloom every loss - we'll win the league then with every win

I don’t think it was the wrong team so much as wrong tactics.
Although I think Reid as a lone striker is the answer and Paterson has looked poor every time I’ve seen him play wide.
The issue was the tactics, Warnock started to do this at the end of last season in certain games and it didn’t work then either. This whole man mark everyone and hope is poor, they cut us to pieces time after time after time. Our players were dragged all over the place which clearly was the instruction. Cunningham following his man into midfield, At one point Bamba and then Morrison further ahead than the midfield following their players.
Done now though we move on.

Man marks work when people stick to their jobs. 2nd half v Man City in the FA Cup last season was 100 times better than the first because we changed to man marking. Problem v Spurs was that Murphy and Camarasa didn't track their man and Cunningham was left exposed and has now unfairly had a bad wrap from the fans but at times he was doing 3 man job. Not his fault.

Can't understand why he played Patterson at right back or right midfield or right wing. I don't think Patterson knew either. Reid played centre forward. What the F were you thinking Warnock.

We could have picked any team and got battered. It's spurs ffs

That's how I see it aswell to be honest, we just can't compete with the top 6. The gulf in class is to big, apart from the odd freak result its not going to happen.
The only thing different I would possibly do is go ultra defensive, play 5 accross the back, with two full backs, Manga and Morrison in the middle and bamba just in front but people would moan about showing no ambition then so Warnock is on to a looser in these types of games whatever he does.

It was quite simple really.
Patterson was there to try to nullify Danny Rose on their right side. You could see it as plain as day. The tactic was also to isolate Patterson and Rose at the far post with long balls hit to that area for Patters to outjump him and create chances.

This is a very good point actually and those bemoaning Hoilett this season should take note.Very probably why Murphy was subbed at half time.

I was happy enough with the line up and the comment about Reid being ineffective in that role to me is tripe. I thought he was effective vs Palace whenever the ball was played into him.

Not me and not everyone is busy commenting on here during the hour before the game.
When the team was announced I expected Paterson up top and Reid....Could be anywhere up front!
I would always pick Bennett over Cunningham
Warnock isn't perfect. Lots of fans were critical. Not subbing Reid half time was daft.

I was commenting on the Spurs game. Did he actually threaten to score v. Palace anyway?

Team always wrong when lose! But more concerning is the substitutions nearly always like for like so whilst we did improve 2nd half we still didn't do anything to score bit like 1st half? Why gave madine on bench if not going to use him? Ok people not impressed by him but surely swap with Patterson worth try 2nd half......

All hindsight though isn't it? Cunningham and Bennett are different types of players. He can use them in different situations. To blame Cunningham for that match is daft (and many people have criticised him). But Murphy and Camarasa did NOT do their jobs (likely because of fatigue) and this left Cunningham exposed to 2 or 3 Spurs players at a time. That's extremely difficult against anyone let alone one of the best teams in the Prem.
We had a horrendous half hour and didn't do too badly after (seems to be the tale of most of our matches). No one was really up front. It was man-for-man marking and unfortunately as I said, a few players didn't do their jobs and it left everyone else exposed. It worked well V Man City in the Cup last year in the second half but not against Spurs.
