'We didn't give ourselves a chance'
FT: Cardiff 0-3 Tottenham
Cardiff manager Neil Warnock speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "When we start off like that we shoot ourselves in the foot. All the planning goes out of the window. The goals were disappointing but they were too good for us in the first half. But that's life and you move on.
"I was pleased that we hung in there because it's easy to throw the towel down when you're 3-0 down to a team like this. Four points in three games over a difficult period is good really.
"We have had a great season so far. Players were told what they were doing and two or three let me down a little in that respect defensively today. We were playing for pride in the end.
"I can't understand why Moussa Sissoko wasn't booked just before half-time for that tackle on Greg Cunningham. I've seen a red given for that but not even a yellow? I just don't get it."
"The players might have been tired but I don't want to use that as an excuse. All credit to Spurs. It was disappointing that we didn't give ourselves any chances. All games are important but I'm glad it's the FA Cup this weekend if I'm honest. Hopefully we can get one or two additions which will help."

Don't think we were as bad as some people are making out. I thought at times we played ok and we didn't get steam rolled by Spurs like Everton did, but in the end individual errors cost us and you cant do that at this level especially against a team like Spurs because they'll punish you. Thought we were a lot better second half, but we need to not concede in the first 10 mins all the time against top 6 sides to at least build some confidence and momentum.

Lots of lessons learned today
Junior has to play
Pats has to play CF until someone better is purchased
Reid, just not up to starting in the first 11 at this level

I’d love Warnock to put his hands up and say he got it wrong, sometimes. There were some awful mistakes from our players, which led to the goals, but they were being made to play the most ridiculous defensive tactics I think I’ve ever witnessed - no wonder they were Messi f up!

I don't like to say it but I have to disagree
City were woeful in the first half and (I'll watch it on TV later) all three goals looked 'soft' to concede. The team just didn't look up for a challenge in midfield or in attack and (as I said elsewhere) I wasn't sure the players hadn't been told to sit off the Spurs players and not get too involved
I thought Josh Murphy had the best of the first half in a City shirt and Junior Hoillet in the second half

All 3 goals were very soft and basic individual errors. But at least we finished the second half 0-0

Hopefully we can bounce back against Huddersfield and Newcastle

One to forget that game
For some reason bamba and Morrison were an marking Kane and Son first half hour resulting in us being short in key areas time and time again we were lucky to be only 3 behind at half time imo
Cunningham for me had the worse performance on the pitch again I’m not sure if Warnock has told him to stay close all game to someone but on a few occasions he was in the centre circle of the pitch when spurs were attacking now there is no reason for a LB to ever be in that position unless he’s on his way back from attach but we weren’t he wa just following a player and then he walked back, not it that there was 30 yards between him and bamba 70% of the game utter madness when normally we are compact and solid
Or back 4 I have never seen so disjointed in a game before and it was all down to players appearing to man mark spurs players rather than keep a solid line
You watch what wolves did to them and they played 3-5-2 when attacking bt 5-3-2 when spurs had the ball and that back line of 5 was always within 10 yards of the next man, had we shown such discipline today we would have not conceded at last two of those goals
Anyway didn’t expect much but that could have been 6 or 7 if spurs had decided to play second half

The problem is where does he play?
The only role available to him with our set up is up front on his own unless we change shape and formation which would be stupid at this stage of the season

Simple dont play him unless Warnock changes formation

Time for Morrison, Reid and Cunningham to be taken out of the side. Manga needs to play at centre back and utilise Bennett and Peltier in their respective full back positions. Paterson is no premiership midfielder but has battled well for us up front - do should stay there until Zohore is fit and/or we get our new striker in the window. Lets hope Camarasa is fit for the Huddersfield game.

Spot on with the changes , suspect there will only be one though which will be Cunningham.
Think he will stick with Morrison until his next poor game which by then we will hopefully have a RB and Manga will be able to move into CH.
Yesterday proved it’s can’t be Reid up front at home, he physically just does not look up to it.
Worth an occasional game away where there is less pressure or a cameo appearance off the bench.

Warnock would have more success rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. We were totally outclassed today and schooled all over.We move on.The only thing today demonstrated was the need for investment to secure a long term tenure in this division.

With no youth coming through, have to agree the club needs a major influx of quality players to become competitive at this level.
It’s not so much about the money as identifying the right players probably scouted from Europe.
Shame that Olly so revered now at Man U wasted so many millions in his six months with us.
The club has a major chance to become established at this level, let’s hope they do not waste it.

We simply never recovered from that farcical first goal. Totally deflated the players and fans. Could almost feel the energy being drained away. We recovered second half, but by then Tottenham were in cruise control. Still, we got four more points over Christmas and the new year than we got last season! It's a good time to gave a break for the FA Cup. Hope we have a decent run, we need something to lift the mood a bit. Besides, some of the squad need competitive games.
Second time I've seen Erikson play at the CCS this season, (after Denmark against Wales). Class. What would we give to have a payer like that! And Hugo Lloris, what a fall from grace. From World Cup winning goalkeeper and captain, to being serenaded with 'he drinks when he drives'. A bit cruel. At least he took the rap honestly, not like Beckham with his speeding offence.

I thought we were excellent until the second goal killed us. First goal was a shambles but we responded well. Then we gave a world class player all the time and space, a little brilliant dummy\shimmy and game over.
So to sum up we were good for 12 minutes

When Junior plays everyone says he shouldn’t.

Reid just seems far to small and lightweight, he gets pushed around and dominated in the air... I think there was much better ways we could have spent £10m!

You can go so far with the money and rescources you've got. We held Tottenham better than Everton did, but at the moment we just can't go near the very top teams. We can and have competed successfully up to around the mid point and for the time being that's going to have to do.
People should stop with this bloody nonsense about fixing this with different tactics and team selections because Sir Neil is already getting better results out of what we've got than anyone could expect.
Of course we have ambition to improve and we can, but not overnight and certainly not by running at top opponents like nutters or playing five strikers or anything. Similarly, if people aren't getting much game time there's a reason for that so we haven't got the answer on the reserve benches.
What will improve our position is gradual sensible investment and realistic support which doesn't ignore what's already been achieved or make ridiculous demands for instant transformations

Agree with this totally.
If we swapped strikers yesterday it still would have been three nil.
