“ WHAT DO WE NEED THIS TRANSFER WINDOW? “

Sun Dec 30, 2018 8:45 pm

The transfer window is fast approaching now. Below are all the details about this January transfer window.

What do you think we need to sign?

I think we definitely need to bring in a striker and a right-back - possibly a midfielder.

When does the transfer window open?

Like last January, the window in England and Scotland will open at one minute past midnight on January 1.

When does the transfer window close?

Deadline Day is January 31 and the window will close at 11pm.

Any new rules for Premier League clubs?

Premier League clubs have agreed that no new players registered at the start of the window will be eligible to play in Matchweek 21, between January 1-3, so you may have to wait to see your new signing in action.

What about the other countries’ leagues?

The window in France and Germany familiarly runs from January 1-31, but it opens a day later - on January 2 - in Spain. Clubs have less time to do deals in Italy - the window there opens on January 3 and closes on January 18.

Not sure we need a right back. With a proven striker onboard Calum could revert to playing there. Defensive midfielder being talked about here, Glen Kamara at Dundee, previously Arsenal. Can play RB. Two proven goal-scorers needed I reckon.

Why would NW pick Callum at full back when he doesn’t think he can defend ?

Imo we need a natural Right back. Even though Manga has done well there for the time being it would be great to see a natural there like Clyne who can cross and offer more offensively. Also think we need a holding midfielder because if Gunnarsson gets injured we haven't got anyone who can play that role. And we need a striker. Id be surprised if we don't sign anyone in 3 of those positions by the end of the January window tbh.

Yeah, that’s what I’m thinking as well.

Would be great if we could get in Clyne.

If we can get a recognised full back, it will also give us more options in the centre of defence. Morrison and Bamba are there on default really, because there are no better options. This way, we could have Manga moved back to that position and the three rotated - even playing with a back five again (Cunningham/Bennett at left wing back, the new player at right wing back, with Morrison, Bamba and Manga as the three in the heart of defence).

I would say the the position is suggested, a striker, doesn’t really need as much explaining.

Read my other post on here regarding the Paterson point.

But I’ll also add it’s hard enough to find one “proven goalscorer” in January, let alone two!

When will our fans finally realise Patterson is a striker and not a RB :banghead:

We need to sign a RB and a Striker would also like us to bring in 2 more Cm’s. Though even if we ended up signing nobody I think we would still stay up.

He can't defend and he hates that position, why would he go back there

Manga has been very good at right back, but is our best ball-playing centre back. Clyne has just returned as a regular to Liverpool's squad, so I'm not sure we'll get him. Two strikers would be perfect, but I can't see us getting more than one. I do like Niasse from what I've seen....at least he's got form in the Premier.
